Just watched Serenity. Very nice
If you can stay calm, while all around you is chaos...then you probably haven't completely understood the seriousness of the situation.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Holy God, was this film disturbing. Excellent piece of filmmaking and it accomplished it's goal - to make you feel bad. This is the type of film that Monster tries so hard to be but never quites get there because the director simply doesn't have the ability to arrive to such a risky fare. I thought Monster was awful, save for Charlize Theron but other than her there's nothing good about the film. Henry, on the other hand, is pure gold. The acting is great (for a film that cost only $100K, it's really good). It gets into some really deep material and doesn't shy away from anything. There were moments that I had to take a break (sometimes a day or two) before I came back to it. I don't think that I could take it all in one sitting. The film is not stylish, which adds so much to the realism. Quite a few important scenes are used in very few takes with almost minimal camera set-ups, but this minimalistic attitude adds so much to the continuity of the events on screen and it forces you to deal with what you are seeing. The videotape memior of a particular murder is quite haunting. If you've seen the film, you'll definately know what I'm talking about.
See it. The 20th Anniversary DVD just came out and it is amazing.

Lord of War - 4.5 / 5
Amazing. You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.

Batman Begins 4.5/5
Great movie, but I still love the one from 1989.
Land Of The Dead 3/5
This is a tough one... I really, really wanted this one to be a great move, as I'm a big fan of the other three, especially Dawn Of The Dead (1978). Unfortunatelly, I was a little (or more) dissapointed. I guess "smart" zombie(s) just don't work for me... and some other things in the movie. Still, there was some good zombie action.Last edited by lafce; 10-09-2005 at 05:15 AM.

We have a similar theater. It shows movies towards the end of their theatrical release, often right before they are released on DVD (sometimes even after a movie has been released onto DVD, but typically only by a week or so). Usually by then the quality of the film has degraded a lot. But what do you expect for $0.50-$2.00?
Ours is currently showing Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dukes of Hazzard, Madagascar, Sky High, The Cave, Duece Bigalo: European Gigalo, Fantastic Four, Rebound, and War of the Worlds.

A History of Violence - 4 / 5
Viggo and Harris are both great in this. Did not realise that it's based on a graphic novel.

Excellent. I just wonder how much is true and how much is fiction.
