A good definition of a "fantasy" movie is a movie where the plot deals with fantastical elements but does not include, as a principal plot driver, future technology. Future technology may be defined as anything post dating today's current public technology level.
A good definition of a "scifi" movie would be a movie where future tech is central either to the plot or as devices used by the characters.
A good example of "scifi" is Star Wars
A good example of "fantasy" is Lord of the Rings
The closest merger of the two genres I can think of, but would still classify as a "fantasy-adventure", is Krull (the one with the star blade weapon that you can throw)

StarWars IS fantasy. Its sci-fi fantasy, Lucas himself has once said it (I´m sure not just once)...And who else should know, if not him?

What I mean with fantasy or "fantastical elements" are for example monsters, trolls, elves, dragons, knights, magicians, dwarfes, wizards, barbarians, kings, etc...
Under the term "sci-fi" I would think of spaceships, high tech, highly evolved technology, lazers, space, future, etc...
I believe that star wars fits the second categorie better, sure it is fantasy, but it is a sci-fi in the first place. star wars got more in common with movies like "event horizon", "star trek", "alien", etc.. than with Harry Potter or LOTR.I'm a mog, half man, half dog, I am my own best friend.

I'll leave out fantasy movies with Sci-Fi elements and include only movies that can be considered epic fantasy or sword and sorcery type of movies... but my list won't be much different from those of most of the users:
1. LOTR: The Return Of The King
2. LOTR: The Fellowship Of The Ring
3. LOTR: The Two Towers
4. Conan The Barbarian
5. Willow
6. The Thief Of Baghdad (1978)

Would you also include any anime?
If so, I would add Princess Mononoke.
On the flip side, I do happen to like both of the Narnia movies but having been a fan of the books for so long (first book set I ever owned) I felt the films could have been better.
Also, I know a lot of people out there will disagree with me, but I felt that The Golden Compass was just about as bad as the book.
Before everyone starts tearing me apart for not getting the books, please allow me to explain: I felt that the human characters were extremely boring (in both the movie and the books). The actors in the movie can only do so much with what they are given. I always felt, when reading the book and watching the movie, that the bears were the best character (felt more alive than anyone else) But, this is only my opinion. Sorry for the rant, please continue on with the discussion.
