RoboCop (2014)
Cast:
Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Samuel L. Jackson.
The Film
Robocop gets rebooted in this big-screen production from director José Padilha.
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Terrible and Horrible!
A lot of fancy CGI action doesn't make the movie good.
I can tell from the trailer they took away all the elements which made the original such a great film.
They screwed up Total Recall when they rebooted it.
I knew from the moment a Robocop reboot was announced that they were going to screw it up too.
The original Robocop and Robocop 2 were a critical satire on society and the human race.
I don't see anything like that in this trailer.
Furthermore, the relationship between Murphy and Officer Anne Lewis gave it a human touch and in this reboot, they replaced Anne Lewis with a Man.
Anne Lewis is now Jack Lewis.
Mod Edit: Snipped, keep it clean, you are insulting people and groups based on your own conclusions and beliefs.Last edited by jacques1400; 09-06-2013 at 12:53 PM.

not very exiting. it will never come close to the original. the impact on how murphy became robo is in the original has a far more deeper impact. also the decision in the original to loose the arm, was such a good idea. here it just looks out of place.

I dug out my RoboCop blu-ray last night and watched it.
You just can't remake this movie to match the original.
Heck, just looking at the trailer where Murphy is killed by a car bomb instead of being gunned down multiple times in cold blood, that's enough to tell me this remake sucks without even having to see it.
Plus it will be rated PG-13 and the original was rated R.
Just like Total Recall was rated R and the remake was rated PG-13.
You can't remake Paul Verhoeven's R-Rated films to PG-13 content and expect them to have the same intensity and quality and shock value of the original.
What's next?
A PG-13 remake of Basic Instinct and Showgirls?
-
well, basic instinct wont cut a remake. beating michael douglas and sharon stone will be very hard. on top the screenplay of that movie was top notch. it would be another useless remake.
as for showgirls... well, that one could actually be improved. if the right people work on it. but on the other hand we don't need a showgirls remake either
-
Having recently rewatched the original Robocop, I found it to be mediocre. But I still liked it and enjoyed watching it. This new Robocop looks like it won't even match the originals mediocrity.

The trailer to this was in front of The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug.
A few people in the packed auditorium were clapping when they saw it.
I am not sure what they were clapping about.

Probably in anticipation of an entertaining movie that appealed to them?
I'm not saying it's going to be a great or bad movie, but the honest truth is that the original, Verhoeven directed or not, was simply a fair "B" movie that made money.
It's not even based on an original concept, the term "Cyborg" dates back to the 60's, and of course who can forget "The Bionic Man" of the 70's.
Robocop was simpy a different story to an old concept.
