Also today, we have word that DreamWorks is currently in production on a new DVD special edition of Ridley Scott's Gladiator, that will feature all new extras (different than what was featured on the previous release) and possibly an extended version of the film itself.

Early disc specs have arrived for the new extended edition of Ridley Scott's Gladiator which stars Russell Crowe. The three-disc set will be available to own from the 7th June, and will add seventeen minutes of additional footage to the film. The original theatrical cut will also be included, so no need to worry about that. The complete technical specs haven't been revealed yet I'm afraid, although we'd be very surprised if DTS wasn't offered once again. We'll bring you further details and the official artwork shortly, but for now here's the full rundown on the extra material. We'd like to extend our thanks to Lara Means for this one.
Disc One: Extended Feature Film- Widescreen Extended Edition of the Film, with 17 Minutes Additional Footage
- Original Theatrical Cut of the Film
- Introduction to Extended Cut by Director Ridley Scott
- An "Are You Not Entertained?" Trivia track with Historical References etc
- Deleted Footage Marker. Guide to help identify the newly restored footage.
Disc Two: Behind the Scenes- Strength and Honor: Creating the World of Gladiator Documentary (200 Mins)
- Tale of the Scribes: Crafting the story
- The Tools of War: Weapons and vehicles
- Attire of the Realm: Costume Design
- The Heat of Battle: 3 Production Journal Featurettes
- Resurrecting Proximo: Digitally Salvaged Scenes with actor Oliver Reed
- The Glore of Rome: Oscar-winning Visual Effects
- Echoes in Eternity: The film's release and global impact
Disc Three: Image and Design- Production Design Primer and Gallery
- Storyboard Demonstrations and Comparisons
- Abandoned Sequences
- Ridleygrams: Ridley Scott's own sketches
- Costume Design Gallery
- Photo Galleries
- Deleted Scenes
- Letters From the Front: Authentic memos on the challenges of production
- Commodus Screen Test (Joaquin Phoenix)
- Visual Effects Explorations
- An Evening with Russell Crowe
- And Much More!

bah.... I already have a SUPERBIT DVD for this title, an HDTV version and the DVD set.... rather spend the money on a HD-DVD version :-)

Sorry, but that coming out of copyright limbo anytime soon is as likely as farmyard animals taking to the air. In other words, it's not coming anytime soon. At all.

3 discs and not one trailer included. Go figure.
If it's a real cow, her udders will be plagued with ulcer by now.

Well, this list isn't official yet. The Digital Bits says that the title is still in production and the list could change. But remember, quite a lot of spec lists are forgetting publicity materials recently. However, a few of them still have those publicity materials on the discs, anyway.
Hopefully that holds true here because those trailers are great.

I won't hold my breath, Workshed. It's Dreamworks ie Universal we're talking about, notorious for f***ing us trailer-philes. Lost any respect to them when they churned out Saving Private Ryan D-day 'SE'.

No DTS?!? So once again, we are forced to buy 2 versions - one for the sound, and one for the extras.

Also, to everyone else, remember, this hasn't even been officially announced. Whatever specs you've heard are not final and there is no announced release date yet.
|
so wait till the final specs arrive

Wow, that's a really nice looking package, I love the movie, and the new extras would probably make me go nuts, but the DVD I have of Gladiator (the 2-disc that came out Oct/Nov 1999, is already a nice DVD. I would be curios to see what Scott put back into the movie, but since it will most likely be $30+, I'll just Netflix it.
