Len Wiseman was the director. He is responsible for those terrible Underworld movies. Well, maybe not terrible but extremely mediocre. JJ Abrams was not involved at all in this remake. A quick google could have told you that.

Kurt Wimmer wrote the initial screenplay, which was rewritten by a couple of other writers.
