Babylon 5 - The Gathering (Special Edition)
(Already Released)
(From Amazon.com customer review )
This disc is simply a re-issue of the transfer originally used on the double-feature DVD that Warner Bros. used to "test the market" for "B5" on DVD a couple of years ago. (The other half of the double-feature was the Minbari War prequel, "In the Beginning")
Essentially they took the existing laserdisc transfers, digitized them, and dropped it onto a DVD. There were no extras, no Dolby Digital 5.1 remixes, nothing. The version of "The Gathering" used was not the 1993 original but a substantial re-edit that series creator and executive producer J. Michael Straczynski oversaw in 1998 when TNT picked the series up for its fifth and final season....
...Warner Bros. is recycling the same transfer of the pilot as part of its "try it, you'll like it" series of low-cost discs designed to introduce potential buyers to its TV shows. (Some discs contain a TV movie, as in this case, others a couple of individual episodes of a series.) All come with a coupon good for $5.00 of one of the full season sets of the same season. They are intended as cheap "sampler" discs to promote existing series releases....
...This is for those who are just curious about the series and want a cheap way to check it out.

Edit 12/31/2007:
Some packing problems have occured with this set. Several sets have been reported as having multiple copies of one disc, and missing copies of others in the same box. I purchased a copy and got two "disc one" and no "disc two". Contact warner home video (the customer question link is a bit difficult to find to click here -- note also to select "Home Video and DVD" in the "what is this regarding" section). I got a email back saying they will send me a shipping label and to send the whole set back for a replacement.

Babylon 5 - Movie Collection
(Already Released)
DVD Features:
--Each movie will contain commentary from the creator (J. Michael Straczynski), cast and crew
--Introduction for each movie by JMS
--"Creating the Future - How Science Fiction and the show influenced each other."
The Gathering (1993): Alien envoys come to the giant space station in the pilot that launched the five-year TV series.
In the Beginning (1998): The B5 prequel! It's humans vs. aliens in the battle that led to the station's creation.
Thirdspace (1998): Is there a realm beyond hyperspace? Discovery of a million-years-old gateway technology may hold the answer...and more.
River of Souls (1998): After death, then what? Questions of eternity arise when a supposedly infallible harvester of souls proves to be very fallible.
A Call to Arms (1999): The torch is passed. A race against time to save Earth links the B5 mission with the Rangers' new interstellar efforts.
