Hate theatre ads??
http://www.msnbc.com/news/913229.asp?cp1=1
Quote:
Hate theater ads? You’re in minority
New study says most don’t mind big-screen commercials
LOS ANGELES, May 13 — A study released Tuesday showed two-thirds of moviegoers do not mind watching advertisements before a film begins, a statistic that should buttress efforts to put more ads in theaters. Among younger movie fans aged 12 to 24, the percentage who do not mind seeing the ads rose to 70 percent, according to the study conducted by Arbitron Inc.
ARBITRON ALSO FOUND that audiences find theater ads more interesting than TV ads and more acceptable than pop-up or other ads on the Internet.
“Our initial thought was that there would be some consumer anger. But contrary to that, the more people go to the movies, the more they don’t mind the ads,” said Pierre Vouvard, president of new ventures for the New York-based research firm.
Showing product advertisements — not movie promotions, or ”trailers” — ahead of movies has been common for years in Europe. In theaters, advertisers find a captive and highly targeted audience.
U.S. theater owners, however, have limited pre-movie ads mostly out of concern that film audiences want to escape the commercialism of TV with its heavy advertising.
Their concern is not unfounded. Earlier this year, a Chicago-area teacher sued Loews Cineplex Entertainment Group, claiming its showing of pre-film commercials was a deceptive business practice because she paid to see movies, not ads.
Still, theater owners are looking to boost revenues, and using pre-movie ads is one way to do that. In some instances, new digital projection systems allow advertisers to place one ad in theaters across the country. The systems allow ads to transcend currently used slide shows to become more active and, in cases, almost like short films.
Regal Cinemedia, a division of No. 1 U.S. theater chain Regal Entertainment Group, is in the vanguard of installing new digital systems to boost revenues through in-theater advertising and showing special events.
In 20-minute segments before movie trailers begin, their theaters might show music videos or a behind-the-scenes look at filmmaking, along with product ads.
“Overwhelmingly, most of our patrons tell us they enjoy it (the 20-minute segment),” said Cliff Marks, president marketing and sales for Regal Cinemedia.

Well of course I find them "more acceptable" then popups! What kind of question is that, really?
If they're well done and funny then I don't mind. But if they don't entertain me then they're wasting their money and my time.
I secretly hope that the movietickets.com family gets killed on their next trip to the theater
Some are fine though...

when i get tickets for previews or something like that, its never ads before the movie, not even a trailer or teaser. And it just feel wrong. I want an ad or 2 and a few trailers to "warm" up for the movie. Its part of the deal when u go to a cinema.

i am thinking that someone lied on that report. i talk to most people and alot of people say that hate them. trailers are cool but the ads for BMW or femine body spray are irrelavant to watching Matrix. not to mention that we currently run 7 ads on our movies and 6 trailers. so you are looking at 20-25 minutes of BS before the movie starts. i know i hate them. they are a pain in the butt....
