The Last Samurai
Two Words: Fricking Great.
It was just a great great movie... like Braveheart with Howitzers and Katanas... Go see it. It's good. Tom Cruise is definitely the film's weakest point, but he does a pretty good job all the same. I want to be a Ninja now.

It was indeed a damn good movie. However, i felt that the film's weakest point was Timothy Spall... His acting was just okay and seemed to overact at some points... But I'd recommend it to everyone in the forum, this is a movie that you do not want to miss.

The movie is out-friggin-standing!
I agree about Cruise but the problem, as Ebert & Roeper noted, is that he is known as such a modern and futuristic actor from his previous movie that the audience has trouble adjusting

I saw this over the weekend. On Saturday actually.
It is a pretty damn good movie. I love all the action with the swords. Definately awesome.
I'm sure I'll buy the DVD.

Loved it. Was worried about the film's portrayal of imperialism as overly simplistic (e.g., we learned from this movie that the very presence of a gun makes a person bad. Blaaaggh!). But even though this short-coming was present, I found that there was an even stronger theme that was incredible.
It’s about two people: a disciple and a master, Cruise and Watanabe. Like great character-driven master/disciple movie (the first that comes to mind is Good Will Hunting) the disciple is arrogant, believing that they don’t need anyone else—particularly someone to disciple them (who better to play this than Cruise!). Meanwhile, the master, although forever the teacher, sees himself as a learner—taking on the disciple with a stronger desire to learn from the disciple than to indoctrinate him.
Watching their journey together was a great experience. Watanabe deserves at least an Academy nomination.
Great film!

Okay, after seeing RotK, I gotta say that this actually wasn't that great by comparison... it's about on par with Gladiator.

The ending was a big letdown, because the rest of the movie was so great.
ROTK (and even Master and COmmander) blows this right out of the proverbial water
