Dedication
by Jenny Jones

To all my fellow hopeless romantics out there, I have to say that chivalry and love still exist and you can find them in "Dedication". It is not your typical romantic comedy and amen to that. Everyone in this movie is edgy, fun and little emotionally off centre -- maybe that's why I loved them so much.

Happily, Mandy Moore finally sheds her innocent girl-next-door, daughter-of-a-preacher look and persona. The result is amazing. She is perfect. From her oversized parka, to her extra thick mascara, her straggly dark hair constantly hanging in her face, right down to her chipped up fingernail polish. She even swears and hell, she owns a vibrator for crying out loud. Yes, it's Mandy Moore at her absolute darkest and grungiest and it works.

However, her character seems like a care bear compared to that of her male love interest played by Billy Crudup. He is a depressing, mean, creepy, bitter, damaged man. I didn't know if I wanted to slap him in the face (hard!) or hug him and make him feel safe and loved. Absolutely brilliant!

Dianne Wiest and Bob Babalan are as quirky and hilarious as always. Their roles may be minor but the laughs they dished out were major.

"Dedication" is the perfect romantic comedy for todays messed up, emotionally confused and psychologically unstable generation. For all of those in relationships who share the belief that love makes you paranoid, unsure of yourself but totally blissful, relieved and special at the same time, this movie is for you. If this cruel, neurotic, paranoid, untrusting idiot who purposely sabotages every chance at love he ever comes close too, can find someone that makes him feel normal, happy and in control of himself for once in his life, then there may be hope left all of us emotionally needy weirdo’s out there.
