Gisele is a gorgeous fairytale princess hurrying along with her woodland friends to marry her charming prince Edward. Everything in her magical animated world of Andalasia is picture perfect and it looks like she and Edward are about to live happily ever after until she is intercepted on her way to the alter by Edward's evil step-mother, played by Susan Sarandon, and she is cast away to live among the humans in New York city. Edward, with the help of Gisele's best friend, a squirrel named Pip, uncovers the evil queen's plan to keep him away from his bride and sets out to New York to bring Gisele back and make her his princess.
Yes, it sounds cheesy. Fairytale characters in a real life city, in real life situations, singing songs with strangers and cleaning houses with rodents and cockroaches, but somehow the magic and wonder that Amy Adams brings to the screen makes it all believable and delightful to watch. The castles, fair maidens, magic mirrors, beautiful ball gowns, dancing, musical numbers and bright vibrant colours all come together to make a beautifully romantic and touching fantasy tale that the whole family can cherish over and over again, especially the women and little girls.
Amy Adams makes this movie. She is the happiest, most charming and charismatic person I have ever seen on screen. Her smile and princess-like mannerisms make her seem like a real life Cinderella. Her appeal is absolutely irresistible. You can not help but smile when she appears on the screen. Every little girl that sees "Enchanted" will want to be just like Gisele with her gorgeous gowns sewn from carpets and curtains, dancing and singing charming little clean up songs with the wildlife of New York City. The songs and dance routines throughout the movie would seem corny and turn most people off of even seeing this film, but they are performed with a perfect balance of silliness and seriousness that makes them fit right in with the rest of the plot and they work.
You have to keep in mind that "Enchanted" is a fairytale. It is a story of wizards and dragons, princes and evil step-mothers. It is supposed to be a story of make-believe and fantastic events that make everyone believe in true love's first kiss and happily ever after.
