Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
by Jenny Jones

Once in a while it feels so good to simply escape from the trials and tribulations of the adult world (even if only for a few hours) and just let yourself be a kid again.

That is the magic and power of "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium". It transports you to a place of dress-up and make-believe where anything can happen and anyone, no matter how big or how small, can be a hero. As Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) prepares for his departure from his wonder emporium, he must bring in an accountant (Jason Bateman), or as he lovingly refers to him, "the counting mutant" to set his toy store's finances in order for the new owner, Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman). However Mahoney does not feel up to the task of running a magical toy store. She always saw herself doing something different with her life, something that she would be remembered for. It takes the convincing of a special little boy named Eric (played by Zach Mills), and a little coaxing by Henry Westen, "the mutant" to persuade Mahoney of her full wondrous potential.

"Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" is delightfully entertaining and fun for the whole family. The music is big, loud and playful. It makes the children want to get up out of their seats and dance and clap along. And grown ups will have permanent smiles on their faces as they travel through a world of imagination and innocence that will make them believe in magic all over again. Dustin Hoffman is silly and fabulous. He will melt all your troubles away with paper planes that defy gravity, pet zebras playing fetch, pyjamas in the daytime, dancing on bubble wrap and a whole lot of laughs.

Natalie Portman proves yet again that she is capable of playing the heck out of any role she encounters. She blends the beauty and grace of a woman with the innocence and sweetness of a child. To meet Molly Mahoney in real life would be a definite treat, to step into her amazing toy store and be a part of her wondrous world. Even Bateman's character, despite his constant commitment to work and seriousness, can not resist the wonder of the emporium and is drawn reluctantly into the fun world of playing and pretending.

Let the magic of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium take you on a ride of fun, excitement and laughter that will make you want to be a kid again.
