Mumford
by Dean Kish

What constitutes therapy?

A little town called Mumford is captivated by a new-comer. The new-comer is a psychologist named Mumford (Loren Dean) who has a very heart-felt and subtle approach to therapy. Little does the town know that this psychologist is a fraud.

Director Lawrence Kasdan's brilliant return to directing and writing, since he did double duty on 1994's Wyatt Earp, shows us another little town upon the same spirit as last year's Pleasantville. As Kasdan has done in the past he has assembled an all-star cast which include Martin Short, David Paymer, Ted Danson, Mary McDonell, Alfre Woodard and Jason Lee. And from these actors he creates a town full of wonderful characters that wants to make us apart of it.

"Mumford" is not a brilliant or thought-provoking movie but a tender escape. It's quirky, friendly and a movie that makes us yearn to be better. But what Kasdan has delighted us with is a beautiful little tale with interesting and pleasant people. Mumford is a pleasure to watch and a delight of the post summer.
