SHANGHAI GHETTO (menemsha films) Release Date: September 27, 2002 D: Amir Mann & Janklowicz-Mann Cast: Martin Landau (narrator) Plot: Documentary follows the filmmakers, as they travel with two Holocaust survivors, as they sneak into Shanghai, China in April, 2000 with a digital video camera to film in the Jewish Ghetto there, where thousands of German Jews found refuge in the 1930s, trying to escape Nazi persecution in the years before WWII. What the refugees found was a miserable existence in a ghetto where many died of disease, hunger and other symptoms of poverty. |
