Movies We’re Looking Forward to in 2015

Posted on January 11th, 2015

The New Year is filled with a line-up of movies that fans from all genres are looking forward to. Whether you love the Marvel Universe, enjoy some intense romance, look forward to sequels from classic titles or even appreciate animation more than your kids, there is definitely something for everyone. The following 2015 movies are among the most anticipated and we’ll be looking at what all the hype is about. More specifically, we’ll be looking at why you should be excited and schedule some screen time when they hit the theaters.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers: Age of Ultron

(May 1)

Synopsis:

The playboy millionaire Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) believes that launching a peacekeeping campaign while recovering from all the destruction from their last adventure is the best way to go. Unfortunately Ultron (James Spader) doesn’t agree and sets his plans in motion to wipe all humans from the face of the earth. With this threat comes more trouble and the Avengers, once again, have to save the day from their underdog position.

Excitement Value:

It doesn’t take much to create excitement around an Avengers movie. Everyone is back including director Joss Whedon, and added to the mix are Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch. And as much as Ultron excites us… This will also set the stage for Marvel’s Phase 3 in which a civil war between leaders Iron Man and Captain America is brewing and Age of Ultron will be showing the first glimpses of how this tension starts to grow. Get ready for some great action in addition to some nail-biting drama. Plus… Hulkbuster.

Jupiter Ascending

Jupiter Ascending

(February 6)

Synopsis:

From the same directors who rose to fame for The Matrix films comes another science-fiction movie that follows the story of Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis). A seemingly ordinary janitor who comes into contact with a genetically engineered space warrior called Caine Wise (Channing Tatum). He informs her that life extends beyond the borders of earth and she is part of the strongest alien family out there. Unfortunately her family members are battling out the issues regarding their inheritance, placing her in a very dangerous position.

Excitement Value:

For starters, it stars two of the most popular actors in Hollywood at the moment and it’s under the direction of The Wachowskis, a team that has made a reputation out of taking special effects to new heights. The plot-line sounds interesting enough (the script is apparently over 600 pages long) and the visuals stay true to the daring nature of the directors. The film was originally slated for release for June 20, 2014, but the studio delayed it’s release and pushed it back almost an entire year to give the production more time in the post-production process. Hopefully it will pay off, despite Channing Tatum’s silly looking ears.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Kingsman: The Secret Service

(February 13)

Synopsis:

The film is an adaption of the comic book The Secret Service written by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar. It follows the decision of a top secret spy organization to bring in some new blood, hoping the new recruit will be able to neutralize the global threat they are facing from a crazy technological maniac.

Excitement Value:

Once again we have a combination of reputable actors and a talented director. Colin Firth, Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson are just some of the well-known faces that will be showing off their skills under the direction of Matthew Vaughn, better known for his work on Kickass and X-Men: First Class. If the popularity of the comic book is anything to go by then Kingsmen: The Secret Service is going to be an action packed experience viewers won’t forget.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey

(February 13)

Synopsis:

This erotic/romantic drama is based on the best-selling novel by E. L. James and sees Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) as a literary student getting caught up in the world of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), a man with immense financial power and influence. What should have been an innocent interview turns into obsession as Ana goes against her better judgment and indulges the mystery surrounding her fixation. As for Grey, the obsession isn’t so much about the intimacy as much as it is about him being in control of everything all the time.

Excitement Value:

Love it or hate it, since the planning of the movie started it has been draped in controversy. There has been a lot of discussion surrounding erotic scenes and the overall relationship between Ana and Christian. Some call it softcore porn (men) and some erotic fiction (women). The official trailer received more than 30 million views and apart from the fact that it’s based on a best-selling book (which in turn is originally based on fan fiction called Masters of the Universe with the lead characters named Bella Swan and Edward Cullen… *choke*), everyone wants to see how controversial it’s really going to be. Aside: Jamie Dornan’s contact states that he will have no full frontal nudity. Sorry ladies.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road

(May 15)

Synopsis:

While good old Mad Max (Tom Hardy) goes about his business in post-apocalyptic Australia, his road crosses that of Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a girl who’s sole purpose is to get across the desert.

Excitement Value:

The younger generation might not really understand why the 4th installment in the Mad Max franchise is such a big deal, but those who grew up with Mel Gibson’s interpretation can’t wait to see it. Due to all the politics and the Iraq war this movie took more than 20 years to be made. If things happened sooner then Gibson would’ve been a part of it, but the lag caused him to lose interest. But with or without Mel, the first Comic Con trailer released blew everyone away and looks to be great fun!

jurassic

Jurassic World

(June 12)

Synopsis:

The dreams of John Hammond have finally materialized and Jurassic World is up and running after 22 years. It’s under the control of the Masrani Global Corporation, but their greed to increase visitors leads to a hybrid dinosaur that breaks out and creates havoc.

Excitement Value:

Steven Spielberg might not be in the director’s seat, but he will be contributing as executive producer and helped come up with the original story, which means the movie should have a great base worth getting excited about. Add red-hot Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) to the mix and you’ve really got something. Like Mad Max, Jurassic World took quite some time to reach production, but the long wait is finally over and Jurassic Park fans should be in for a fantastic visual treat.

Ant-Man

Ant-Man

(July 17)

Synopsis:

The original Ant-Man, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), takes the role of a mentor in this movie while Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is in charge of utilizing the Ant-Man suit. Together they have to protect the suit against a new breed of enemies, using the skills of Lang to pull off a heist in order to save the world.

Excitement Value:

He may not be as popular as Iron Man (who himself wasn’t that big of a deal until his first film), but this movie isn’t just about another superhero. Ant-Man was one of the founding members of the Avengers team and Marvel is going to make sure everyone knows it. Fans will get to see where everything began. Expect to see several connections with the Marvel Universe and maybe even Captain America, making it a very important movie in the Marvel franchise. With the departure of director Edgar Wright (who was attached to the project for 8 years) due to “creative differences”, everyone is anxious to see how this film turns out.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

(December 18)

Synopsis:

This is the first film in the third Star Wars trilogy and it takes place 30 years after the events of The Return of the Jedi. It will feature three new lead roles accompanied by some familiar faces and more focus is going to be placed on the new generation of Star Wars characters.

Excitement Value:

If anyone can reboot the Star Wars franchise, it’s J.J. Abrams… right? With just about every original cast member coming back to reprise their roles, and George Lucas having very little involvement, we’re hoping for good things. The teaser trailer surpassed the 50 million view mark and overtook both Age of Ultron and Jurassic World in this regard. Most of the excitement surrounding The Force Awakens is based on the reputation of the Star Wars franchise.
