5 of the greatest TV Scenes from 2015

Posted on July 10th, 2016

Despite the rise of live streaming, television remains a powerful force that continues to dominate viewership in the contemporary market. While this may change overtime, for now live streaming is simply providing a progressive platform through which viewers can enjoy their favourite shows at their leisure. However you enjoy your preferred programs, there is no doubt that 2015 was a seminal year for television. We saw a number of hit shows dominate the airwaves, from the third instalment of House of Cards to new programs such as Mr. Robot and Better Call Saul. With this in mind, we have collated our favourite five television scenes from last year for your enjoyment.

“The Bingo scene” from Better Call Saul, Season 1, Episode 10

Like its parent franchise Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul is a slow-burner of a television show that bubbled during season one without ever exploding in to life. Its meld of drama and humour is to be applauded, however, with the brilliant bingo scene combining both to great effect. This is also a seminal moment in the show, as Jimmy tussles with his conscience and keeps drawing out the same balls repeatedly. While it may seem odd including a scene from a traditional hall given the rise in the numbers of people who like to play online bingo, this scene highlighted that no matter what Jimmy did, he always ended up in the same predicaments.

“The White Walker Resurrection scene” from Game of Thrones, Season 5, Episode 8

This was a huge moment in the gigantic fifth season of Game of Thrones, and one that underlined just how hopeless John Snow’s battle against the White Walkers was. While Snow enjoyed a minor victory of sorts, the resurrection of his mortal enemies was a truly defining moment in the franchise that was played out in almost total silence.

“The Hallway fight scene” from Daredevil, Season 1, Episode 2

There is nothing like starting with a bang, and this what the popular Daredevil season did in spades. The second episode featured this explosive, continuous fight scene, for example, which was beautifully shot, expertly lit and carried out in a frighteningly small space. The martial arts choreography was truly incredible, and while the scene was just a few seconds in length it was quite exhausting to watch.

“The She’s your sister Scene” from Mr. Robot, Season 1, Episode 8

Another huge debut hit, Mr. Robot is an Amazon Prime original that earned critical acclaim in 2015. While there was always a sense that there was more to Elliot’s relationship with Mr. Robot than initially met the eye, the revelation that Darlene was actually his sister came out of left field and truly blew our socks off. This altered the whole dynamic of the show and offered an insight into Elliot’s breakdown.

“The Let Blaine Die Scene” from Silicon Valley, Season 2, Episode 6

Providing what was arguably the greatest dark humour comedy moment of the last 12 months, Silicon Valley’s “Let Blaine Die” SWOT board has to be seen to be believed. It originates from a debate over whether or not to let a jerk named Blaine die, with some of the pros and cons utterly hilarious. In terms of making a dark conversation both everyday and fun, this scene wins full marks and is well worth a watch.
