For some, purchasing and investing in cryptocurrencies can feel like a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The highs of increasing your cryptocurrency portfolio can also lead to the lows of losing your precious savings instantly.
Ok, it’s not that bad, but let’s understand why you should be wary of this market with some leading crypto movies.
Bitcoin Heist
If you want to learn more about cryptocurrency markets, check out the Austrian action-thriller Bitcoin Heist. The movie revolves around an Interpol agent who assembles a team of thieves to catch a cybercriminal.
What I like most about this film is how its characters are played by established actors like Toshiyuki Nishida, Luise Rainer, and Mika Hijii. Even though I don’t speak Japanese (or German), I found it helpful that there were English subtitles.
The movie has a rating of 6.3 on IMDb and was well-received by critics in Austria and Germany, where it premiered on March 4th of this year and grossed €619,000 (USD 690,000). Although the acting isn’t that good, but those who liked the Michael Bay movie Bad Boys will enjoy seeing the same kind of over-the-top criminal antics in this film. The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin
The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin is a documentary following the history of Bitcoin from its inception in 2008 to 2013. The film director, Nicholas Mross, has been involved with the cryptocurrency community since 2011. He decided to make this movie to highlight the most pivotal moments in Bitcoin’s history and answer many questions that he had been asking himself while getting more involved in Bitcoin.
The docu-drama mainly focuses on two core themes:
- The rise of Bitcoin, which includes it beginning to be worth pennies and reaching over USD1,000; and
- The rise of ‘the community.’ It includes all of the people who made Bitcoin what it is today.
In addition to covering different aspects of these themes (e.g., interviewing early adopters), The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin also interviews prominent figures such as Mark Karpeles (founder of MtGox), Roger Ver (early investor in several Cryptocurrencies), Gavin Andresen (core developer), Vitalik Buterin (creator/co-founder Ethereum) among others who have played an important role in shaping one or both themes over time.
Movies like this are an eyeopener to highlight how rewarding Cryptocurrency prices can be if you dive into it deeper!
Bitcoin: The End of Money As We Know It
Film producers are legitimately obsessed with the idea of a sequel. Whether making a sequel to The Avengers or a sequel to Fast & Furious 8, if you can put together two things that are mutually appealing in some way, odds are good that someone will see your idea and run with it.
And it’s something you should keep in mind when considering the upcoming release of a documentary called Bitcoin: The End Of Money As We Know It on Amazon Prime. While I am not sure what the movie will be about, judging by its title, trailers, and IMDB page description, there seems to be a fair amount of intrigue surrounding this particular film. With stars like J.K Rowling predicting that Bitcoin could be bigger than gold and CNN declaring that Bitcoin is “probably not worth worrying about,” I can’t help but wonder what this Netflix-backed production has planned for us.
We all have been lucky enough to live through some major events in history. Like, Barack Obama elected president or when we got our first Twitter account. Often without realizing how significant these achievements were until many years after they had occurred. And that’s how it should be with cryptocurrency movies like this one; we shouldn’t know about them until decades after their release. And by that point, they’ll start earning their place in history alongside films like Citizen Kane.
The Bitcoin Gospel
When the buzz about Bitcoin first started, it quickly became clear that this was a topic ripe for cinematic treatment. The most obvious comparison is to the early days of the Internet, which saw a similar burst of excitement and interest in Silicon Valley—a time when investors flocked to buy dot-com domain names with dreams of quick riches.
Nowhere has this been more evident than in the rise and fall (and rise again) of Bitcoin, which has experienced its own dizzying highs and devastating lows. Since its creation in 2009 by mysterious hacker Satoshi Nakamoto (believed to be a pseudonym), millions of people worldwide have become enamored with Bitcoin’s technology: an open-source platform that facilitates peer-to-peer transactions without any central authority. The mystery behind Nakamoto’s identity and the unconventional nature of its function has made it ripe for speculation and propelled it toward mainstream adoption.
The blockchain technology behind Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is becoming increasingly known as something that will revolutionize everything from government operations to how we handle finances—but how will this play out on screen? We’re here today to look at some movies or television shows that deal with cryptocurrency in one way or another, whether they’re lovingly mining cryptocurrency or mining your data.
Life on Bitcoin
If you’re looking to compile a well-rounded education on cryptocurrency value, it’s best to start with some basic information. The introductory movie Life on Bitcoin is an entertaining way to experience the daily trials of living on cryptocurrencies and bitcoin.
You’ll get valuable insight into how people in the industry interact, how technology is adopted as a way of life, and (most importantly) what it’s like to take your landlord out for dinner when you can’t pay him with anything but bitcoin. If you’re more of a documentary person, try watching Banking on Bitcoin, which will give you background on bitcoin and introduce you to many other companies that have embraced cryptocurrencies in their business model over the years.
The next step in your cryptocurrency education should be getting familiar with trading platforms. Trading platforms are where individuals buy and sell cryptocurrencies for traditional currency (dollars, euros, etc.). Some popular platforms include Coinbase and Kraken, but there are many others out there for different countries and currencies around the world.
As long as you have an account with these or any other trading platform that interests you, watching movies about them will help paint a picture of how they operate from behind the scenes—and may even give some ideas about which features would be most useful for your needs.
Before we get into details on how exchanges work and how cryptocurrency mining works, we should cover some basics about what cryptocurrencies are.
