In an interview with French website Télérama, Katsuhiro Otomo has stated that Pitof, the director of Catwoman, is set to direct the live action adaptation of Akira.

Pitof eh? Expect some major (good) CG used in Akira.

It used to be beware of the one-legged pirate. Now you have to beware of the one named director.

(Wait till I become a real director... )

So by that rationale Charlie's Angels sucks...

Akira was never really that great of a story to start off with. It's a landmark film cos it's one of the first animes that caught the Western culture's awareness that Japanese 'cartoons' are really something else. Personally I prefer Miyazaki's films, End of Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell or even Perfect Blue over Akira.

(Still can't wait to check out Steam Boy, which is supposed to come out in cinemas here in mid-November.)

Well the reason that I said Akira is so screwed is because
Catwoman sucked it was hateful. In my opinion it is the worst
comic movie ever far worse then Dolph Lundgren's Punisher and
even far worst then the '94 Fantasic Four which is an achevement
in itself. so with that said this Akira is probably going to suffer
    the same fate.

Now I agree with you Editman about what you said about Akira
I do not think it is a good film at all and rather enjoy
End of Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell and Perfect Blue rather
then watching Akira and I always get fliped on by other Animation
aficionados and Fanboys when I say it is not a good or pleasing
    film.

New titles are added usually around the the first of the Month

What's so great about it!!? Don't just say 'such-and-such movie is great'. That kind of comment is absolutlely garbage. Hell I can say 'Debbie Does Dallas is a great porn, I loved it'. WHO CARES!!? Say it out what are the merits of the movie, and then everyone else can join in for a discussion.

Replying personal remarks that lead to nowhere are NOT a welcomed way to join in a conversation.

To call Akira a piece of ‘classic’ Manga would be a serious insult. This isn’t just a piece of Manga history that has found its way into the hearts of millions – this is Manga incarnate. Without Akira it’s very possible that us Westerners would never have got to see a single Manga film!

This was a massive hit over here and off the back of this landmark piece other Manga titles began to flow. And you know what? This is still better than most of them! The vibrant colours of the breathtaking Tokyo cityscape and the crisp sharp images that assault the mind show up most other films of its kind to date.

The soundtrack in particular makes this a worthwhile purchase on its own – even if you do already own the film. The music is, as ever, superb in Akira but the English dub to give you speech that is not only good but also very convincing.

The story is something of a testament to the whole Manga name. It delivers all the usual themes but still manages to keep you firmly in its grasp right up until the explosive ending. Akira revolves around a group of bikers who stumble across a government run testing program that is trying to unleash (and control) psychic powers. Powers that lie dormant in all human beings – we’re still trying to find ours! Unfortunately for them their latest subject and gang member Tetsuo becomes a little bit unstable to say the least.

This refers to my Special Edition version of the Akira movie
