"Serenity" countdown!!!
My favorite upcoming movie is just a few months away!
The movie "Serenity" based on Joss Whedon's show firefly is coming in 100 days!
Case you haven't seen the trailer yet - it's one of the highest rated on movie-list - with a 4.48 rating!
I'll post a bit infrequent as the days go by (i.e. 75, 50, 25) then get the real countdown going!
Here's a quote:

Hate me for I have already seen it! haha.
No spoilers though. I wouldn't dare ruin it for anyone. But if you liked Firefly 'Serenity' will totally blow you away. I was short on breath after the film it is so stunning!
Best sci-fi movie ever! Can't wait to see it again.

guess is... does it have that same colourful humour and good warm heartful insulting just like the series? Or all that lost in the Hollywood budget?

Re: Serenity movie
I heard rumors it has all the original cast of Firefly in it, including Adam Baldwin.

does it have that same colourful humour...
Wash (Pilot): "This is going to get really interesting"
Mal (Captain): "Define interesting..."
Wash: "Oh, God, Oh God, we're all going to die...."
I heard rumors it has all the original cast of Firefly in it, including Adam Baldwin.
Some other cool notes:
Universal (the guys putting out Serenity) owns the SCIFI Channel USA, and are showing the TV episodes of Firefly (they bought the rights - yipee!). They launched the show site: http://www.scifi.com/firefly/
Check Firefly out on SCIFI USA beginning Friday July 22nd, preceding Stargate SG-1, and learn why Serenity will be a fun movie!
T-Minus 75+2 days!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to the Serenity screening in Melbourne on Thursday night! Yay!

I just watched this and it was totally crap (just like australian tv itself). They showed probably half the trailer with a stupid voice over trying to explain the synopsis. That totally sucks. I wish it was more like U.S. tv where they tell you when full shown trailers will be on tv for anyone to watch
-
Yeah, although it was more a story than a trailer, that is a kinda high rating show so the publicity is good.
It gets better cos the trailer debuts in Australian cinemas as of tomorrow (July 28th). With what film I don't know, but the popular guess is with The Island.

35 days!!!
There's an interesting new "covert" marketing campaign going on. A bunch of clips have made there way onto the net featuring Summer Glau as River Tam. Joss Whedon also is a voice in one.
Check it out at the following three links

62 Days!!!!
Serenity Movie website has been redone - lots of cool colors!!!

I like the new look of the website. The second trailer was much better than the first one - I was a little disapointed with the first as it seem a little too rushed and sloppy. Except for Jayne's "Let's be bad guys." But this new one is terrific. This and Movieman's comments are getting my thinking positively about Serenity again.
I checked out the Firefly airing on SciFi the other day, to make sure they were in the proper order this time, and saw that they weren't in widescreen! Within 90 seconds of watching the second half of the pilot, at least four shots were visibly cropped/damaged by this decision. Whedon even talks about how important the widescreen is to the show in his DVD commentary! If you are gonna air them, air them right!Last edited by IceGambit; 07-31-2005 at 10:16 PM.
When you got 'em by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow.

47 Days!!!

From Fireflyfans.net
Entertainment Weekly quotes a Universal exec saying that Serenity will have to make over 80 million dollars in order to be considered for sequels. If it does not make 80 million than Serenity will be all we get.
I'm assuming 80 million US in domestic gross. Another post gives a look at the possible competition....
----------------------
From Fireflyfans.net
...On Sept 23rd
Tim Burton's the Corpse Bride (which I kinda expect to tank)
Waiting (A Comedy with Ryan Reynolds and Anna faris. Probably not much staying power)
Sept 30th
Serenity
The Greatest Game Ever Played (A feel-good Disney Golf movie. Like anyone is going to see that).
Oct 7
In Her Shoes (A Cameron Diaz comedy)
Two For the Money (Al Pacino drama)
Both not a big threat to Serenity (if base don genre alone).
Oct 14
Elizabethtown (Orlando Bloom among others)
Domino (Keira Knightley). These could cut into Serenity a bit, which is why I predicted a bigger drop off.
Oct 21
Jennifer Aniston and Kurt Russel have separate movies coming out, in addition to Doom. This is the weekend I see Serenity really tailing off....Last edited by Granite; 08-14-2005 at 10:50 AM.

I read that Entertainment Weekly article, and I thought the number was absurd! I would never expect Serenity to take in that much in U.S. theatrical gross. Probably worldwide, then yes, but the fact remains that most people go see movies because of the actors in them, and Serenity has a bunch of no-names (granted a bunch of terrific no-names, but no one but us knows that.)
Hopefully Universal meant along with DVD sales, because those will be stronger. I have already committed to buy the DVD whether I particularly like the movie or not. (I want to hear the inevitable Whedon commentary.)
Did Universal take such a hit from Cinderella Man that it needs 80 mill from this little 40 mill movie?
By the way Granite, I would expect Domino to bomb as well. I haven't seen any publicity for it, and we all know how non-Spielberg action flicks do these days.Last edited by IceGambit; 08-17-2005 at 10:25 AM.
