Movie-List Says BOYCOTT MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3
<IMG SRC="http://www.movie-list.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3608&stc=1&d=1142823681">
We all know Tom Cruise has gone completely insane.
But it's only getting worse.
South Park, Scientology, psychiatry, Katie Holmes, fake marriages, wire-taps, gay porn... it just won't stop.
With the latest temper tantrum over a South Park episode and his blackmailing Paramount in regards to M:I3, we say "enough is enough" and vow never to pay money to see another Tom Cruise film.

I don't understand these Scientology 'religion (?)' and what they stand for; do they brainwash and drug their members there?
Is that why Tom is so weird?

<A HREF="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology">Wikipedia's Scientology definition</A>
Scientology is a religious movement based on a system of beliefs, teachings, practices, and rituals that originated as philosophy in 1952 by author L. Ron Hubbard, and characterized by the Church of Scientology in 1953 as an "applied religious philosophy". Hubbard defined the word "Scientology" to mean "a study of knowledge".
The Church of Scientology has attracted much controversy and criticism. Critics — including government officials of certain countries — have characterized the Church as an unscrupulous commercial organization, and it is accused of harassing critics and exploiting members. Scientology's principles have been characterized as pseudoscientific by mainstream medical and psychotherapeutic practitioners, and, as with many other new religious movements, the Church has frequently been characterized as a cult.

I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this, but it almost sounds like the Pentecost Religion to me....
Clark Kent is who I am. Superman is what I can do.

Honestly... I think what actors do in real life, that's their personal life. I go to movies for the story, cinematography, editing, directing, etc, regardless of who's in the movie. Of course, talented actors may provide a little more incentive and reason for us to see the film, but I like to look beyond their personal lives and focus on what really matters: the film.

But I want to see M:I3
I agree with chizzace. I'm not interested in his private life. As long as he makes good movies, I will watch them.
-
In most cases I agree. I don't read tabloids; I don't watch the "entertainment" shows like Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight..
But it's gotten to the point where I can't avoid his stupidity anymore... and now it's also affecting the movies he's in.
I used to enjoy his movies.. but now, just the site of him angers me.

I'm with you boss, i hate Cruise anyway + MI2 was crap so i don't care
-
I'm still going to go to M:I-III but because I support director Abrams, not Cruise. Cruise sucks and the only good films that he's in now are because of awesome directors, not him. He was one of the worst things about War of the Worlds.

Cults
I need to think on this. For me, every cult maybe a problem, a big problem.
Here in Venezuela Scientology used to have very good looking (and expensive, sure) offices, if I follow what people have told me. Those offices maybe rented. They speak about nutrition complements, composed of things that are not in nature in the needed amounts for human requirements but necessary for human development (phisical? spiritual? or both?), or something like that.
They sell kits with those complements and the required kits for each level in Scientology's hierarchy, if my memory is fine. Sure those kits are expensive also.
I remember that John Travolta is also related to this cult and his movie Phenomenon (imdb.com) was made because of his Scientology beliefs.
About L. Ron Hubbard, he was also a science-fiction writer. Did anyone have any knowledge about his sci-fi books?
Another cult that I believe would be dangerous in the (near?) future is the Räelian movement. I have some knowledge about this group from some years (it's a UFO related cult, like Heaven's Gate [info on wikipedia]), but I start to worry about it when the group did two weird announcements:
- The intention to build an alien embassy in Jerusalem, and
- The research they do in the genetic field, including commercial purposes, through its own company Clonaid
Links:
In wikipedia:
- Claude Vorilhon, cult's founder, known also as Räel
- Article about the cult itself
- Wiki info on Clonaid
Official links from the Räelian movement:
- Official site
- Another official site
- Räel radio, official
- Official news website
- Page of Clonaid, Räelians' own clonation company
- e-Books from the Räelians, for free (as far as I check, at least some of them). See some titles: Yes to human cloning, Sensual Meditation, Geniocracy
Other pro-Räelian links:
- Yahoo! group focused in science related to Räelian messages (I suppose they are talking about the messages they claim to receive from extraterrestrials. 5,077 members. The Spanish language equivalent group has 203 members. Those groups are also accessible from this URL)
- Unofficial site with forum and videos. 522 members.
Informative links:
- University of Virginia's Religious Movements Project entry on the Räelians
- Räelian entry on Robert Todd Carroll's The Skeptic's Dictionary
One comment I have done about Heaven's Gate and the Räelians in another forum here.
- The Räelian symbol, before and after 1991 (from wikipedia)
By the way, about Heaven's Gate, there is a fiction TV movie made in 1982. See wikipedia's note:
The 1982 TV movie Mysterious Two [imdb.com] was loosely based on the teachings of Heaven's Gate founders Applewhite and Nettles.

lol, seems you are interested in these more than ís healthy, jmcc
anyway I AM going to watch MI:III, I never liked TC, but there are lots of gr8 movies he played in and which I love (Eyes wide shot, Minority Report, War of the Worlds and much, much more).
I´m not american, the informations of his crazy acting in his personal life got to europe too, of course, but I´have never read it very much and I really hate reading such a shitty stories about what has who done.
You know what - I would go crazy too, if I´d be so famous and every f...ng journalist around would be taking photos...maybe I would even join these his cults or whatever it is.
The point is - I dont give a f..... (as lots of members) about his life, as I never cared about any elses
and I will see all his next movies even if he´d shot the moon from the sky

I don't understand why this South Park thing became such a huge issue! Isaac Hayes ("Chef") even left South Park because he's a Scientologist. However, I'd seen this episode on Comedy Central a while ago. I thought it was hilarious but didn't hear anyone make a snuff about it. But then when they present it again, as a re-run, Tom Cruise moves to attack it? Why? It's South Park. Who cares?
Anyway, here's some interesting quotes about Hayes's recent departure from the show.
Hayes stated:
"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the soul legend said. "Religious beliefs are sacred to people and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."
"Past episodes of South Park have skewered Catholics, Jews and Mormons, among others. However, according to Stone, he and Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. "He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin," Stone told the Associated Press.
