I don't know about QT;
I use Windows Media Player Classics it plays everything that QT plays, everything that WMP 9 and 10 won't play and even VOB files

forgot to mention...
the reason why i want the mpeg playback component on quicktime is because its the only program that im able to export tracks of audio and video.
for example...im able to export the rear speaker channels from a high def quicktime trailer into a wav file.
im figuring if the mpeg playback component on quicktime can open VOB's....
i would like to export the chanels of audio from the vob to wav files.
so does anyone know if im able to do that?
OR....
if theres another program where i can export/Rip the audio channels out of vob's that have 5.1 audio?

It can play vobs yes, but no audio. So no you wouldn't be able to export the seperate channels. Since AC3 isn't a supported format that Quicktime decodes.
There's about a billion ways to export/import/rip different tracks/channels/video for both mac/pc. And, all freeware.

QT MPEG-2 component is a waste of money. I foolishly bought it only to find out it doesn't support multiplexed MPEG-2 files.
-
wrong!!! it does handle multiplexed mpeg 2 files. within quicktime you wont be able to listen to the ac3 audio. this is only because it's not enabled to do so. if your mpeg2 file contains mp2 or pcm audio, then it will playback it within quicktime.
is the component a waste of money? depents what you wanna do. if for example you wanna use mpeg streamclip, which btw is one of the best freeware tools, you need this component to run the app properly. this counts for the mac. on the windows on the other hand are many alternatives which i would recommend to use those.
on mac: yes, buy it if you need to use tons of mpeg 1 or 2 files
on win: no, cause lots of alternatives
