Question Children of Men release dates and questions...

Was looking at the release dates for the new scifi movie "Children of Men" starring Clive Owen and Julianne Moore. Was so excited that it was coming out on Sept 29th in the US, and now realize that has changed (note to JP: Trailer page lists Dec 25th -- should be 29th according to IMDB, and movie is still listed in September in theater releases section)

According to IMDB also, the US will be one of the last countries to get the movie in wide release...why? It's usually the other way around
