Exclamation Discuss "The Departed" Thread (SPOILERS) !!

i just started watching "The Departed" and I already have a question:

the Man and Woman that were executed on the beach right at the beginning, are they the Father and Daughter (Vin and Carmen) restaurant keepers that Jack Nicholson was collecting money from at the beginning?

No, I don't think so, there was no reason for and no reason was made clear in the movie. Also they didn't show their faces fully so it isn't made clear, so assuming they were those people is just speculation.

You're on the computer browsing the forum while you're watching the movie?
    No wonder you're confused.

Turn off the computer and watch it properly.

Pretty good movie overall but not better than Goodfellas. I'm not sure what it is but it seems like Scorcese doesn't quite "capture" the whole Irish mob feeling.

I liked it but I didn't think it was Best Picture Material and not Scorsese's Best Work either.

Pan's Labyrinth and The Good Shepherd, IMO, are better movies than "The Departed".

Yes you CAN but it's not good. "Can" doesn't mean I must do this anytime"

I can't agree. I've watched Goodfellas some weeks ago, same as The Departed. Both are in the same league for me.

I seen it at the theater and didn't like it at all.Ever since
Scorsese adopted Leo,Scorsese hasn't made a good movie.
That's not to say Leo isn't a good actor, but he is not a
tough guy.And Mark Wahlberg overplays it.And Matt Damon
    plays himself.

The elevator scene was "cartoonish" there where people, including
me in the theatre that where chuckling. It wasn't shocking,it was
goofy. It was one of those movies you wanted so bad to be good, that
you left the theatre thinking it wasn't that bad then a week later
you come out of denial and say to yourself yeah it wasn't great,
mmm, yeah it sucked.I went through the same thing with the
    Matrix sequals.

    Scorsese's best,in this order

    1.Goodfellas
    2.Taxi Driver
    3.Raging Bull
    4.Casino
    5.Cape Fear

    P.S.
A movie that captures Irish mob is State of Grace
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100685/

It's a little melodramatic at times but an under rated gem.

I don't want to say that State of Grace is not good movie, but the fountains of blood and slow-motion in tha final scene... this was too much for me.

The show Brotherhood is great too for the Irish mob. I liked The Departed, very entertaining.
Good choice with State of Grace, love that movie.
    "STEVIE NEVER HURT NO BODY"
Sgt. Johnny Beaufort: He says, "The Apaches are a great race," sir. "They've never been conquered. But it is not well for a nation to be always at war. The young men die... the women sing sad songs... and the old ones are hungry in the winter."

I saw it like 2 weeks ago and I can't wait to see it again. I think the Academy made a good choice this year. I think it was better then Letters from Iwo Jima (which I really liked). Letters are fantastic but only if you watched Flags of our Fathers. The Departed stands on its own! Give it some time, I think that when you come back to it in years to come, You'll apreciate it more.

I can't wait to watch it again too. I don't really know if it's really Best Picture (my heart tells me - Little Miss Sunshine, which I'm gonna watch soon), but veeeeeery good movie.
