Gillian "Anderson regrets X-Files years"

Anderson regrets X-Files years
BY: WENN | Friday, April 20, 2007
Actress Gillian Anderson regrets spending nine years in popular TV series THE X-FILES, admitting it was the money that kept her going.
The star says she "had no choice" but to sign for a long stint on the show, although she has agreed to reprise the role of Agent Dana Scully in the sequel of the film adaptation of the sci-fi series.
She says, "I couldn't get out of it. I didn't have a choice. Back then I was all innocent and I thought, 'Wow! This sounds wonderful' but then when I started, I realised I'd be in a Canadian wood working 16 hours a day for nine months a year. And the reason I stayed so long was because the only way I could get more money was to commit myself to doing it for another couple of years."
Anderson compares the on-set atmosphere as a "disgusting microcosm", adding, "To begin with it was alright, but gradually it all became incredibly gossipy and incestuous."

nag nag nag... I bet she's not nagging when she goes to the Bank!!
it's like Jennifer Aniston complaining about how hard it was to make the TV show "Friends" each week; yeah, $1 million dollar per episode in the last 2 season of the series sure was hard!!

Like it or not, she is still and, judging from her recent choices of movie roles played, probably always will be remembered as Special Agent Dana Scully.
On the other hand, it is difficult to keep at the same job or doing the same thing over a 9-year period. Sometimes it's not so much that one doesn't like what s/he's doing, but one can't possibly like everyone at work. Even the most minute annoying factor of the least annoying person in the crew can irritate you, and over a long working period together, the magnitude of irritation only magnifies.
Then again time can play tricks on your memory, or as the years go by you start seeing the past in different ways you'd never seen before. So a cosy family of co-workers yesterday can be regarded as a 'disgusting microcosm' today. (If so, that certainly didn't show on those making-of featurettes on the X-Files DVDs.)
What I reckon is, that's just a way of her to excuse herself from appearing in the last 2 not-so-good seasons of the show, rather than leaving at the end of Season 7 like Duchovny did.
If the second X-Files movie has taken off the ground by now, she probably would jump on immediately and be happy to play Scully again and wouldn't make comments like that. In a way she's saying, 'I didn't have a choice then so I had to do the bad shows. Now I have a choice and if I'm in the next X-Files movie, it's because it's good and worthy of my time.'
"The idea was to be a symbol. editman could be anybody, that was the point."
