    Norrington Returns to Direct Titans
    Source: Variety
    December 14, 2007

Steve Norrington, who hasn't directed a film since 2003's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, will direct Clash of the Titans, the remake of the 1981 mythical adventure that is best remembered for Ray Harryhausen's special effects.

Warner Bros. and Legendary are plotting a production start next year, reports Variety.

Basil Iwanyk will produce through his Thunder Road. In his first such effort since The Empire Strikes Back, Lawrence Kasdan rewrote a script by Travis Beacham.

I'm not sure how to feel about this bit of news. On one hand, I think the original movie is fantastic with outstanding visual effects for the time. But on the other hand, can you imagine the creatures done with today's computer graphics(if done correctly). This movie will be quite expensive. Guess I will just have to wait and see.

Principal Photography Begins on Clash of the Titans
    Source: Warner Bros. Pictures

Principal photography began Monday on Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' epic action adventure Clash of the Titans, being directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk). The film stars Sam Worthington (upcoming Terminator Salvation and Avatar) and Academy AwardŽ nominees Liam Neeson (Taken, Schindler's List) and Ralph Fiennes (the "Harry Potter" films, The English Patient).

In Clash of the Titans, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

Leading the international cast is Australian actor Sam Worthington as Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, king of the gods. Liam Neeson takes on the role of the mighty Zeus, and Ralph Fiennes plays the role of Hades, god of the underworld, who feeds on human fear. Rounding out the cast is Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) as Io, Perseus' mysterious spiritual guide throughout his journey; Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) as Draco, who takes up his sword to join Perseus' quest; Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as Acrisius, a one-time king-turned-hideous beast; and Alexa Davalos (Defiance) as Andromeda, a princess doomed to lose her life if Perseus does not succeed.

Based on the 1981 film of the same name, written by the late Beverley Cross, Clash of the Titans is directed by Louis Leterrier from a screenplay by Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi (Aeon Flux), story by Travis Beacham (Dog Days of Summer) and Hay & Manfredi. The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk, who produced the drama We Are Marshall for Warner Bros. Pictures, and Kevin De La Noy, who last served as an executive producer on the studio's blockbuster The Dark Knight. The executive producers are Academy AwardŽ winner Richard D. Zanuck (Driving Miss Daisy), who most recently collaborated with Warner Bros. on the comedy hit Yes Man, and Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and William Fay, who have teamed with the studio on such hits as The Dark Knight and 300.

The behind-the-scenes team creating this mythical spectacle includes director of photography Peter Menzies, Jr. (The Incredible Hulk); production designer Martin Laing (Terminator Salvation); editor Vincent Tabaillon (The Incredible Hulk); Academy AwardŽ-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (Topsy-Turvy, The Dark Knight); OscarŽ-nominated visual effects supervisor Nick Davis (The Dark Knight); OscarŽ-nominated prosthetics supervisor Conor O'Sullivan (The Dark Knight, Saving Private Ryan); Academy AwardŽ-winning special effects and animatronics supervisor Neil Corbould (Gladiator); and Academy AwardŽ-winning makeup and hair designer Jenny Shircore (Elizabeth).

Clash of the Titans will begin filming in studios outside London and will later shoot in various locations in Wales and in the Spanish Canary Islands, predominantly on Tenerife, off the coast of Africa. Further aerial work is set to take place in the diverse locales of Ethiopia and Iceland.

I thought Hades was in the original mythology of Perseus (of which the 1981 movie is based). I actually hope this remake is closer to the mythology than the 1981 version. The effects of the original are pretty cool for the time, but they look really outdated and sometimes it makes watching the original a bit laughable. But overall I still like it.

I'm looking forward to this one. Hopefully they deliver a solid movie.

well, if you want to take that approach - Hades was in the original myth of Perseus, however - he gave him the helmet of invisibility.

Perseus (Sam Worthington) is the mortal son of Zeus (Liam Neeson), king of the gods. He must lead a band of warriors on a quest to prevent Hades (Ralph Fiennes), god of the underworld, from seizing power from Zeus.
    ...

i'm gonna have to get out my big mythology book - but if im not mistaken (i could be) i don't think Hades went after Zeus. this sounds more like a live action version of disney's hercules than perseus ...

True. Sounds like they are taking liberties and making him darker than he was. But this movie still sound like it could be better than the 1981 version.

Wow talk about judging a book by its cover, how about you see the movie before you condemn it?

Am I the only one getting sick of this whole 3D thing? I don't mind it for animated movies or even Avatar was alright in 3D though not as amazing as people made it out to be. But taking movies like this where they had no intention of them being in 3D when making it and then converting it seems wrong to me.

The 3D, the last minute composer change, the week delay... all of it is making me second guess the film.

First of all, movies are subjective. But I bet you know this already. Secondly, the newer movie isn't even out yet. Therefore your declaration is very silly.

Yo,J7, that second set of pics looks more like Prince of Persia rather than Clash of the Titans.
