    Question Linux and Blu-ray movies

What do you know about the support on Linux for Blu-ray disc movies?

Apparently there is support on Linux for data BDs but for movies I have heard nothing.

Yes, Linux can play Blu-ray movies.

At least with Ubuntu, however, the process is a bit cumbersome to get the ability, and it is probably illegal in some countries, the U.S. included.

Part of the problem is that the software required to play Blu-Ray discs is not free (or not supposed to be, anyway). You'd think that kind of charge would be added on to the disc, but apparently, it is charged by the player. Consequently, if you had a paid distro of Linux, it is possible that it might be better able to support Blu-Ray than a free, community-based distro.

Technically speaking, the same is true of playing DVDs (although the process is a lot simpler, it is still technically illegal in the U.S., although that has yet to be officially challenged in court).
