ATTN ML Encoders
Hey there ML buddies,
Long time no post!
Say hypothetically I had a copy of the latest Star Trek trailer in full 1080p QT.
And I wanted to play this on my 1080p HD TV through a PS3. How would I go about it?
I know I need to re-encode the video because "apparently" the PS3 won't support QT.
But can anyone tell me what settings / codecs I should use?

p.s I'll be using AVS Video Converter to do this

The easiest thing to do would be convert it to DVD format.
I'm not sure what formats the PS3 supports...

It does have some presets for DVD.. but I was hoping to get it to a Blu-Ray style quality.. I really want it to shine on the big screen!

I know for a fact that ps3 supports xvid and dvix. Not sure on others.

PS3 supports Divx and Xvid, WMV without audio and maybe some other formats.
When I will play trailers on the PS3, then I use this way:
1. Use QT-Pro to save the trailer as an uncompressed avi. By 1080p you need many freespace on your HDD.
2. Re-encode with Virtual Dup in Divx.
Maybe not the best and simplest way, but it works for me.
And I have a question too:
How can I convert WMV to AVI/DIVX? ?

easiest way is to convert to .mp4
if you have quicktime pro go to export, select mp4 format, set audio and video to passthrough, save new file and stream or copy to your ps3. no need to re-encode.

I play almost all the new trailers on my PS3 on my new plazma tv
I use SUPER! to convert them. Sometimes you can just stream video and audio into new container (stream only option) and I change it to mp4. But that doesnt always work, so what I do with trailers is that I put it to SUPER! and I re-encode it to DivX in AVI. FullHD usually takes like 2mins to reencode, so its not really a problem. Just dont forget to set highest bitrate possible. Quality loss is minimal and it looks just gorgeous on my screen (especially startrek)
