The Film

A twisted, funny, high-octane adventure, director Matthew Vaughn brings KICK-Ass to the big screen.
KICK-Ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.
His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

Actually, this movie was orginally shunned by all the major studios. The studios wanted to make hit girl 19 and take away some of the violence and profanity to get the pg-13 rating. They told vaughn that this movie doesn't fit the superhero mold movies of the past few years. So vaughn financed the movie himself and has stated many times he's glad he did because this way he got to make the movie he wanted without some hollywood exec breathing down his neck telling him what should or shouldn't be there. It was when clips were shown at comic con last year to a standing ovation that the studios came back in a bidding war for the distribution rights. In the end they went with lionsgate because they were the only ones to give vaughn and his team the final cut for the film. For once we get what the original creators wanted and not something that went through the hollywood grind machine. I'm all about the independent movies

Just got back from seeing this and my god did they do a good job with it. Really fun, funny, violent, awesome, awesome stuff. Although it was rated 15 in the UK which I was really surprised at considering the amount of violence, blood, swearing and the fact there was some sex in the film.

Now that is surprising. I can understand because everything in the film is very tongue-in-cheek but still there is a lot of gore and dismemberment.
