This should sadly put a stop to further rumors about Bond girls and screenplay drafts for Bond 23, the 007 follow-up to Quantum of Solace: franchise producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have issued a statement that production of the next installment has been delayed until further notice. Coming Soon posted a joint-credited quote from the EON Productions duo:

"Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on 'Bond 23' indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of 'Bond 23.'"

What an unfortunate thing to report after half a year of worrying and speculating that such a delay would occur due to MGM's financial woes. Back in January rumor of a similar production stoppage was fortunately squashed with a denial from EON, and since that time we've been able to happily anticipate an Oscar-caliber Bond film involving the talents of Peter Morgan, Sam Mendes and maybe even Rachel Weisz. Now, who knows what we'll end up with and when we'll end up with it.

Noooo! Hopefully something happens in the near future so they can begin again.
