Red face The Smurfs 3D (Animation)

    The Film

Audiences everywhere are in for a Smurfy good time as the Smurfs make their first 3D trip to the big screen. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours – in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down. The film is set for release August 3, 2011.
Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, and Hank Azaria star on camera opposite an all-star voice cast. Anton Yelchin will play Clumsy Smurf; comedy legend Jonathan Winters, who voiced roles in the "Smurfs" television series, will voice Papa Smurf; Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Katy Perry will play Smurfette; Alan Cumming will play Gutsy Smurf; "SNL's" Fred Armisen will voice Brainy Smurf; and George Lopez will play Grouchy Smurf.
In the live-action roles, Azaria will play the Smurfs' nemesis, the evil wizard Gargamel. Harris and Mays star as an expectant couple whose lives are turned upside down when the Smurfs cross over from their magical village to New York City. Vergara plays Odile, Harris's boss, a cosmetics executive.

    OH DEAR GOD!

Let me list the things wrong with this trailer...

Neil Patrick Harris (have some respect man, jesus I know its a cheque but really?)
    Epic voice man.
    Epic music.
    Stupid colouring of landmarks.
Incredibly cheap looking text landing in time square.
    Smurf'd
Stupid music combined with Smurf theme song.
    SmurfHappens.com

The only thing good about that trailer? The Smurfs didn't look half-bad... shame about the other 90%.

    6. The smurfs themselves look good (now imagine everything in that CG style - it would work much better). But the production quality is crappy and makes it look like a made-for-TV movie.
@ #5 Agree completely. Its funny to note they utilize those double meanings and the film is not yet rated. It reminds me of some people during Ep. 3 of Star Wars saying "Sith Happens." At least Lucas was smart enough to nix any use of that in the marketing.

@ #3 Yes, they do look good. The cheap effects to me, though, just look like something not fully rendered. Remember when the first Avatar trailer went online and it got those same criticisms? The second trailer showed much-improved effects that seemed properly rendered. This is trailer here is like that first Avatar one: rushed.

    Call it... friend-o.

Personally... I don't feel either way about the trailer.

I like the idea that it's live action, but I hate 3D. I cannot wait for the whole 3D crap wears off. But the movie itself... it didn't show me anything horrible. Yeah, the smurf'd thing and the smurf happens thing was odd, but it's so quick that I just didn't even care.

So I guess my compliment to the filmmakers would be, your trailer did nothing for me. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it... Meanwhile I see trailers like Tangled and Alpha & Omega and think "wow animated films are really going down the tube."

This is very cool but, little kids like 4 or 5 year olds might watch this and have nightmares. But it is still cool.
