    About

    Popeye is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania, "Dexter's Laboratory") and written by David Ronn & Jay Scherick (The Smurfs, Zookeeper, Norbit). The film is an adaptation of the classic cartoon sailor Popeye, created by E.C. Segar, which debuted in the established "Thimble Theater" comic strip in 1929. The character was introduced as a walk-on, but became a comic star, blossoming into a cartoon hero in the 1930s and 1940s. Now Popeye gets his own computer animated film from Sony Pictures Animation. No voice cast has been announced, and there's no set release date yet, but it's expected to arrive sometime in 2016.
