you have a P2 at home? then that would be a problem.. encoding sorenso 3 will take time... 800Mhz is the minimum u can have..... and it already takes soo long with that machine

640 and 720 res trailers using QT needs about 600Mhz to 800Mhz minimum.... try to turn off bidirectional encoding that might make things faster

Well I can always encode at work (where I got a P4!) then bring it home to test and upload.

    Relax, everythings under control...

    hehehe ok ....

heres some options to take note of

    <IMG SRC="http://www.movie-list.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=42418">

be sure to have the proper res and 2 pass sorenso 3 and also 1600 to even 1900 bitrate is nice, shorter trailer and better quality u can use higher bitrate, usually keep the trailer below 35MB then its ok..

for the audio, good audio source means u can use 192kbps, they sound musch better than 160 or 128, and usually i want to keep 48 kHz, coz of better quality, using 44.1 is only needed for compatibility for very OLD soundcards, but theres no point coz these trailers are not meant for old PCs.....

snd for the advace settings, i like to make it 65 for feyframes.. sudden scene changes are dealt better... birectional should be off coz it crashes some players and some systems...

all other tabs in the advace options should have no activated functions...

    hope this helps=)

    Thanks dude.

    What about interlacing?

I've already asked moviebuff but I'm still confused with the PAL vs NTSC vs intertlacing issue.

then u need TMPGEnc Plus, u can load vob files by frameserving them using the proj files of dvd2avi.. these softwares are also on the server..

and also if source is 25fps you should make them to film 24 fps and use programs like cool edit 2000 to resample the audio back to 24fps speed...

making these QT trailer good is not that simple actually lots of apps are needed..

for a PAL interlaced 25 fps u need these...

dvd2avi (frame serving the vob, extracts audio)
cool edit 200 ( resampls audio to 24 fps speed)
TMPGEnc (to deinterlace PAL trailers or even NTSC, and save avi) (also enter 10 or 01 on the IVCT filter)
virtualdub (to join audio, do some color changes, resize, make to 24fps speed)
    Sorenso 3 pro codec
Sorenso Suite ( to make into QT)

vob is usually 1GB per min so try to convert them 1st to a m-jpeg codec to save space...

so this are just some steps needed to repair a bad looking
VOB, but every trailer has to be treated diff...

I think I'm more confused now.

Back a few steps: how do I know if a PAL trailer is interlaced (badly)? (Say the stuff I FTP you, can you pick anyone that's an example?)

to know if a trailer is interlaced or not try to open it in dvd2avi then scan seek through the trailer, if u see lines then it is iterlaced..

so far from the trailers u sent, i still did not encounter any badly interlaced trailers, most of your trailers are anyway NTSC from NTSC DVDs for coverting them from 29.97 fps to 23.97 or 24 is easy....

Why you said it yourself... Hell.

Alright... I'll be serious. But only if you ask politely next time.
