Sony Pictures Animation has unveiled its future plans for animated feature length projects, which includes the talents of several acclaimed animation veterans from directing and writing divisions.

First up is OPEN SEASON, based on the cartoons of Steve Moore. The film is about animals in the wild who turn the tables on the hunters chasing after them. The picture will be directed by Jill Culton, her first foray after being involved in the story development on a number of Disney and Pixar animated films. Anthony Stacchi, a former ILM employee, will co-directing with Culton. Chris Jenkins, producer on the Disney films BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT? and THE LION KING, will produce this feature.

The art style of acclaimed fantasy designers Brian and Wendy Froud will be seen in TAM LIN. Based on the Celtic folk tale of the same name, the movie's script is being written by Neil Gaiman (PRINCESS MONONOKE). Roger Allers and Brenda Chapman will direct TAM LIN. Both teamed up on the Disney features BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE LITTLE MERMAID and THE LION KING.

The children's book CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS is also in development at Sony Animation. Wayne Rice (SUICIDE KINGS) will write the screenplay, based on Judi Barrett and Ron Barrett's book. The film will be directed by brothers Paul and Gaetan Brizzi, who supervised the Firebird sequence in FANTASIA 2000. The story is about a magical land where food falls from the sky.

The Brizzis will also direct and supervise SURF'S UP, a Romeo-meets-Juliet set in the world of surfing. The screenplay is being written by Christian Darren.

THIS ENCHANTED FOREST is a comedy being written by Jules Feiffer, a Puliter Prize-winning cartoonist. No further details were made available.

Finally, a feature length movie based on the Academy Award-winning animated short THE CHUBBCHUBBS is in development. There is currently no talent attached to this project which is still in the early stages of development.

Release dates were also not revealed at this time for these new projects. All films are anticipated to be made using CGI animation. Previously announced as being in development at Sony is ASTRO BOY, based on the Japanese cartoon character of the same name.
Love animated movies, but ChubbChubbs feels like a cashCow project.
