Where did the term "Flick" come from?

I have heard this term and I have no idea what it really means besides the reference to a movie. What are the origins of this movie term?

    ahhhhhhhhhh

the flickering light from the projector? At 18 fps (standard speed for silent movies) it would be noticeable.
current movies are 24fps and cinema proj have 48 fps to even lessen the "flick"er
