    did you buy vhs?

as you can see in my dvdprofiler link i'm somehow addicted to dvd's since i got my first dvd-rom in the summer of '98.
but as much as i love movies, i hardly bought them before. the only things i own on vhs are:

    the lady and the tramp
    goldeneye
forrest gump (limited edition tin )
    id4
    sister act
    scream (uk import)

i guess it may be a result of vhs having only the german version on it, but i don't think i would have bought much more if the original tapes were more easily available here and in the same price category as the german ones.
there is only one vhs i'm still planning to buy:

nine inch nails - closure (halo 12)

i gave up hopes that this will be available on dvd soon, although it was once announced but then cancelled a few weeks before its release date. it's the only thing missing in my complete nine inch nails halo collection

am i the only one that started buying stuff beginning with dvd's or are there others?
maybe some people own some laserdiscs, but they are hardly known here. i only bought the t2-leather box with silver plate on the front as a collectors item on ebay
somebody told me you have a boyfriend who looks like a girldfriend that i had in february of last year the killers

I have a lot of VHS. But I had VHS since I was like....5. So that's why the collection seems so large.

    Compairing, I buy more DVDs.

i started with vhs. first german tapes and go over to uk or dutch tapes because of UNCUT. at this time english wasn't a thing i wanted to have but i had to earn it then in sommer 95 is startet with laserdisc and one of my first was the t2 directors cut box for 265,- DM wich is now about 140 euro. yes laserdisc where expensive but what aren't you doing for best picture and sound + some nice extras and i still have approx 50 ld's left including the t2 box, star trilogy s.e. in dolby digital and the indiana jones trilogy :big grin:
my very first dvd was mars attacks wich i get in '97 and i still own since may'99 i started getting more and more dvds and getting rid of many laserdiscs including the original cut of the star wars trilogy

and now i'm a dvd junkie

hey! Your sig is neat! What movie is that? You said Steven Seagal's best performance. That is an awesome pic of the F-117.

A majority of my collection is video mainly because it is only recently that I started getting DVD (last year for Valentine's Day (2002), my wife got me two DVDs and I got her two DVDs, that is the start of our collection). Our collection has grown a lot since. We are currently up to about 65 DVDs. I don't think we have purchased a video since last Feb., though. I especially like shopping at video rental stores that sell used DVDs at cheaper price, and there is a store not too far from here that buys and sells used CDs, videos, video games, and DVDs, so I frequent there a lot.

I have around 120 video tapes in my collection, although I am gradually trying to make the transition to DVD. (That is not counting the videos of stuff I have taped off TV, I have a ton of those.) There are a couple of videos I am keeping, though. Mainly ones where the video release of a movie and the DVD release of the movie are very different (one has a rating difference, the other has 25 minutes re-integrated into the movie).

I loved Executive Decision and I got lots of tapes too (mostly because of the price compared to DVD)

The procedure is I buy the tape of a movie that looks promising and the tape costs anequivalent to renting hte movie 2.1 times, If I love hte movie like Fight Club, The Rock and so on I then wait for some specila edition multi disc set and buy the DVD

I have very few VHS movies, but what I do have is....

    Snatch
    Thunderball
    Jurassic Park
    Armageddon
    Austin Powers 2

This is compared to my considerably more sizable DVD collection.

Back in the days of the VHS era, editman mostly taped movies on TV. I only bought two VHS as far as I can remember, towards the end of the VHS days:

Batman the Movie (the 60s one)
    Vertigo: widescreen SE

I also won a VHS copy of The Adventures of Tom Thumb for my short films in a on-campus short film fest.
