Fox To Remake The Fly ...again
again?...lol
http://www.variety.com/
Fox Searchlight has made a deal to remake The Fly, with feature newcomer Todd Lincoln writing the script and directing.
The studio began setting up meetings with Lincoln for The Fly as they watched their Danny Boyle-directed zombie film 28 Days Later become a summer sleeper hit.
Lincoln is an admirer of the 1958 original and David Cronenberg's 1986 redo and swears he won't fall into that fly-trap of regurgitating a well-worn plot. "I'm one of those comic book sci-fi fans who read the remake announcements and groan," he tells Variety. "This is certainly inspired by the original but it's a total re-imagining." What new things can we expect? "Why, in both films, did the fly never fly?"

no way jose.... the original scared the crap out of me!

why da hell is someone making a remake again??? cronenberg and goldblum can't be beaten!!! sure a remake may have better makeup and vfx but it will never come close to the 1986 version

Further proof that studios will remake anything, even if they have remade the original film in the first place.

Give it a chance guys. I do think its to soon, though.

...because Hollywood has no more original ideas anymore. ok, maybe a few but they only come out with the blue moon....
look at this past summer...how many part 2s,comicbook films and movies based on rides cames out this year as compared to original films that were not based on a comic book,a previous movie or was a remake ???Last edited by redbear; 09-09-2003 at 02:01 PM.

Actually red bear (and everyone else). Ur wrong. Remakes are done to reshow the new age the story in their own language. True its a crappy way to do it, but it does bring but the old audience and get teh interest of the new.
I'm still waiting for someone to make a remake of Seven Samurai in a scifi format. DS9 tired but it sucked. I want a whole movie!! Seven Samurai remake 'Magnifient Seven' was fantastic! Easily my fav western. Sometimes, remakes are really good!/!\ Certified Bandwidth Abuser || ([)(]) Dolby Digital me bitch! || Alicia Keys || Game Trailers || FaceBook user ||

well...there are some remakes that are very good (Magnificent Seven is a good remake, as is my favorite movie,The Thing)
but it seems that most remakes that are done, are crappy.i really can not remember a remake that was really any good in a long time....

I think the studio bosses should scrap the Fly... and remake p.o.s movies that have ruined otherwise great sagas... namely: Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.
There is no point RE-making fine movies... every point to re-making movie disgraces...

It's a simple case that remakes don't suck as bad as people claim. They suck if they're just the original film again AKA Psycho, but some of them are good films in their own right that are rejected because people wnt the first film again. Both The Fly and The Thing were rejected when they were released as basically Pornographic, in a violence rather than sexual aspect, because the originals were just basic science fiction. Both of those films are now regarded as better than the originals but it's by an audience who largely saw the remakes first. I've seen the original Fly movie, in my opinion it's nothing special but some regard it as a classic. Cronenburg remade it as a Dr. Changing into a fly, rather than a Dr. with a Fly's head, and a Fly with a human head, the times he made it in let him do it that way. That's what remakes are usually for, they allow you to approach a good concept from a new angle in order to tell a different story.
Look at Tim Burtons Planet Of The Apes. I thought that film was great fun, some very good action, good performances and amazing Makeup effects. Yet it's hated more than most mindless popcorn movies that are made much much worse. Why? Because people wanted to be watching the originqal and couldn't stand to watch Burtons film that wasn't a satire, because he saw the concept as providing him with different oppotunities.

Just thought that with another reason for remakes is that the old movies are made with a intended story or note to the audience. Studios remake these movies with the exact same story but us as the audience have already got the message from the original movie.
Overall... these remakes are made for the newer generation to once again, show or tell them the valves of what the original movies did... with added effects and in todays language and understanding.
