Question Questions on how to construct a trailer?

I had some questions on how to construct a movie trailer.

I had some ideas on creating a trailer. What I need to know is some suggestions for software to help me do it.

    (1) A good music editor
    (2) A good video editor (all formats - quicktime and avi/mpg especially)
    (3) Something to edit together the music and video (also interested in text overlay on some frames)
    (4) Video compression hints (can't make the file too big)

Any pointers would be greatly appriciated

    SoundForge for music;
apple quicktime player for qt and mpg editing - check all it's properties, i was surprised when found out that this soft is pretty cool for simple editing...

edit together - virtual dub? or the same SoundForge, or something like that... compress the file to avi, ofcourse

oki doki, i'm not the best one at multimedia soft, hope this'll help you somehow.

Well here are 2 edit/audio programs I use regularly.

    - Adobe Preimere

    - Final Cut Pro

    - Avid Express (industry - very expensive I might add)

Good text effects- although the programs above have this ability but they don't give a whole lot of options.

    - After Effects (even the best trailer/commercial editor will still use this program)

Any 3D program that can generate text.

Audio editing has many possible programs (but I usually use this one because I don't normaly mix audio that much.)

    - Acid Pro

Now all these programs above are great but they are not free.

There are many free programs out there that have good editing abilities, audio, and text layouts if the ones above are to much to handle interms of cost or user freindly enviroments.

If all else fails get 2 VCRS and a stereo and some cables. I use to edit like this back in highschool when I did the morning news for school.

i don't think it's a good idea to recommend warez to get a program. if you do so then keep it for you but to write something like that here can bring movie-list and it's owner in a lot of trouble.

Excuse me for talking about something like that. It won't happen again although I did not explain where to get it or who to get it from. But I understand completely and I won't let something like that slip again.

Bender you should do the same since you are quoting something like that and I have just made the appropriate edits to clean that remark as well.

Keep in mind I don't condone it or practice it but I figured discussing the subject would not bring harm to the forum. For that I apologize.

    Sorry

c'mon, bender, this forum is full of stolen trailer links from movie companies, and you think the speech of drew boi is "dangerous" to this site

depends on what you mean with trailers: edit or encode

well for editing, not only for trailers, i bought final cut pro 4 and after effects
as for encoding i use sorenson squeeze.
