Are these even REAL indie films? Or just some uni student wannabes shot some crap on video, made some 'trailers' and hoping to grab some attentions by planting a thread in the Forum?
(Hell, I should've posted the links to my student fim trailers 6 years ago. Except back then there's no M-L Forum...)Last edited by editman; 02-03-2004 at 02:47 PM.

Of course they are real
You can buy Missy on DVD right now if you go to the link that says 'buy now'
Standing 8 is in post.
A Black Tie Affair is a skate film for a local skateboarding company (Dressed To Kill) Which will be being released nationally in about 6 months...so yeah...they are all real films...
and about the comment on crap on video...shame...shame on you...
-
Did you have any part in the making of these "films"?

I am actually the editor/extrordinaire on standing 8 and A Black Tie Affair...so...yes I'm trying to get word of mouth out...is that so wrong? they are real movies, with real distribution...I'm just getting an early jump on the advertising companies...plus you people love trailers...

...so...there...

It's just that I no longer believe in it, with all those pretentious film festivals around the globe, pointless film-making clubs at unis, clueless friends and families got together with a DV camorder making silly shorts, a-holes who develops some theories about how a film's success depends on its bloody title. All these BS has created a community in which filmmaking is a obscure way to fame and fortune rather than a passion as in the era of French New Wave.
Hell everyone thinks s/he can make a film these days. Everyone thinks he's the next Spielberg/Cameron/Bay. While, in fact, most of these people are mediocre slackasses or simply BS artists. I've seen and worked with way too many these people.
Shame not on me. Shame on what guerilla filmmaking has become.Last edited by editman; 02-03-2004 at 04:42 PM.

Truth is...I agree with you 150% But, you can't count out all the guerrilla filmakers at once...all those people with miniDV cameras and rich relatives, I see them and want to scream, slap them and break a few bones...it's us truly guerrilla/independent filmmakers who suffer...we can't get into festivals without money, but we can't get money without getting into festivals...It sounds like you are in the same boat...if not...I apologize for the misunderstanding
In short...Shame not on guerrilla filmmaking. Shame on what the industry has made guerrilla filmmaking...

Also, these films I've posted...they need reckognition...
I myself have been in the 'industry' coming up upon 7 years as an editor and have seen some good, and some **** (mostly ****) coming in and out of my edit suite...I'm not proud of most the stuff I've worked on...but these 3 products are worth talking about...
Sure, Missy was a first timer project for a bunch of people...but, it made it to the semi-finals at the nodance film festival two years ago (one of the anti-'pretentious' film festivals) and now its being distributed on DVD, the screenwriters/directors have agents and are right now working on two 10 million dollar scripts which should be off the ground in up to six months and one 40 million dollar one, that's in the middle of a bidding war.
Sure, Standing 8 is an incredibly independent film that is still in post production...but, there are 3 execs (from studios I'm not allowed to mention for fear of breaching contract) who are in the process of fighting for the rights...
Sure, A Black Tie Affair is a low-budget locally produced skate-video...but, the skatecrew and the quality of the previous videos have created such a buzz in the area that a proffesional skate company has picked the video for distribution...
These films are Guerrilla at their finest...they aren't some backwater hacks who think they are the next Spielber/Cameron/Bay...they are just out to tell a good story, make a good film, and have a good time, while doing a good job at it...which, if I do say so myself, they do a VERY good job at it...in fact, they are some of the most talented people I have ever met...Last edited by Turtlewhistle; 02-03-2004 at 06:27 PM.

Sorry man, but how are we supposed to see these movies? Do you think we're going to buy a $17.99 student film without actually seeing it first?
And is the skate movie just another bunch of annoying guys skating and doing stupid things in between, because if so I've already seen it and it wasn't good the first time around.
I don't mean to come off so strong, well I do or else I would change my post. I'll just apologize for it now.
-
However I think I like the cover art on that dvd, I'm not real sure because the pictures a bit small.
-
Well...the skate movie is for skateboarders...so, its going to be filled with skateboarding...get it? its called a market...I don't fully expect anyone not into skateboarding to enjoy it, honestly...but I have (as the editor) tried to work in more general audience friendly stuff, so it is more enjoyable for those of us who don't skateboard
With 'Missy', a video distribution company is looking at releasing rentals...but I'm not sure...you'll have to e-mail the guys at Shinebox to know for sure
-
We'll let you do that, after all aren't you trying to "market" your work?
