But do they adjust for inflation? 1980 money is worth about double of 2004 money! That would put ole' Darth up to about #3.

Since there are churches for God and Jesus but not for jedis.... I'm not surprised.

I'm a Christian myself and I'm not so disappointed. Go Jesus!

    (please don't hurt me!)

    Well... you just never know...

Jedis don't call the place for their worshipping 'church', they call it 'sci-fi conventions'.

I don't think passion sold for christions, no! it sold for Mel Gibson.
Seriously, how many other religious movies have been made, and i don't see any of them on the list...

They are not adjusted for inflation, I believe Gone with the Wind is the highest grossing movie of all time when adjusted, I saw the list some time ago and it was dominated by old movies.

You're partly right. Its primary audience is Christians (like me and radstar), but it did even better than most because it had Mel stirring up controversy.

This movie has incredible buzz among Christians. I still hear people talking about it with strangers at church. I have been a Star Wars fan since the age of 3, but I rarely talk to non-Star Wars fans about the movies. Conversely, Christians talk to every Christian they know about this movie and how influential its message was on their life. You can't beat that word of mouth.

    You Are right:
"During the war years of 1941 to 1945 and the postwar years from 1946 to 1948, Hollywood experienced its most profitable period. Until 1948, weekly attendance was measured at ninety million people, a number that was five times the number in the mid 1990s. This wartime boom for the movie industry, however slowed in the late forties and early fifties as television viewing grew..." Film an introduction, by William H. Phillips
