The Lord of the Rings: FOTR (BAD NEWS)
The Lord of the Rings: FOTR (DVD): At a DVD launch last night in Sydney, it was confirmed that the 4-Disc edition (whose details have yet to be announced) will NOT include any of the same extras as those on the 2-Disc August version.

OVERALL : Draw - Nearly the same specifications, the only difference being the missing DVD-ROM features from the Region 2 disc.
Although an extended cut is due on 12th of November 2002 which will be presented in a 4 disc set. Disc 1 & 2 will be hold the film (30 minutes longer) and discs 3 & 4 will contain six hours of original supplementary material, full details to follow.
The six hours of extras will not be present on the 6th of August release, likewise the extras on the 6th of August release will not be present on this extended cut, both hold exclusive material. Right now both extended cut DVD's on Region 1 & 2 look identical except EIV (Region 2) has stated the presence of DTS ES not present on the New line DVD (Region 1).
Making the Region 2 the winner on the Extended Cut 4 Disc Set.

Why is this "BAD NEWS"?
I think it's great. If I am going to buy both versions, I don't want repeated extras on the second version. Having all new extras just makes the it better. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy both the 2 disc, and the 4 disc versions. I am going to by choice. I want the movie as it was seen in theaters, and the extended cut.
