Exclamation Brad Pitt to star in Mission Impossible 4?

Less than a month ago, Paramount Pictures embarrassed Tom Cruise by not renewing his production deal with the company, a move that was basically seen as Cruise being fired.

Now Paramount may take things even further and replace him in the "Mission : Impossible" franchise with Brad Pitt, one of his biggest rivals.

(Paramount) is determined to keep the lucrative series alive after "Mission : Impossible III" took $400 million at the box office, with the previous episode taking $545 million … Sources say Paramount is prepared to do whatever it takes to get Pitt on board, and is even willing to make him the highest-paid movie star in history, with a salary topping $40 million …

"MI:IV will not include Cruise's character, agent Ethan Hunt. They're considering a brief mention, saying Hunt retired to live a safe life with his new wife. They're set on Brad taking over as a gutsy new head operative who puts together his own unique team of specialists."

"Everything's being kept top secret, but they're offering Brad a deal no one could possibly refuse. There's no doubt, this would make Brad Pitt the biggest and highest paid star in the world."

Finally someone is recognizing that Tom is losing it and he is not good image for any studio who hires him to make a film!!

Wow! Interesting pick! I wonder if he would actually do it? It's going to be strange to see someone else in the role, though. I wasn't even a huge fan of Cruise, but I do think he did a good job with these movies.

Pitt denies mission to replace Cruise

Brad Pitt has moved smartly to deny suggestions he is being lined up to replace Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible films.

Cruise has been the headline star for three MI films so far, racking up more than $530m in total at the US box office alone. However his highly-publicised split with Paramount Studios, which bankrolls the films, has led to speculation that a replacement is being sought.

Pitt's spokesperson, however, told the New York Daily News that the rumours were "totally made up", while Paramount itself described suggestions Pitt was offered $52m for a one-movie deal as "complete fabrication".

Given that the latest film in the franchise, MI:3, made only $133m at the US box office, compared to more than $210m for the second film, it may be that Paramount are not falling over themselves to put a fourth movie into the production pipeline after all.

Pitt's next two films will be Alejandro González Iñárritu's Babel, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, in which he will play Jesse James. Both will hit cinemas in the UK next year.
