Star Trek (2008)
If anyone wanting to know the trailer music for the theatrical trailer of Star Trek that previewed before Quantum of Solace it's "War Begins" from Brian Tyler's Children of Dune soundtrack. It's track #9.
-
no, it's not. It's Down With the Ship by Two Steps From Hell
here's the link to the mp3:

Your right. I was thinking the same thing when I heard the War begins. It is very similar if not inspired by. They took the great part of the song and extended it.
-
Damn, Spider Man 101, you are right! They really sound incredibly alike though.

It's actually a mix between the two tracks. If you analyze closely when the text "From director JJ Abrams" appears in the trailer. The build up in the music does not correspond to that of "Down with the ship" (listen to the string section), it switches over to "war begins" (at 0.26 in "war begins" to be exact...less strings). Later it switches back to "Down with the ship" at 1.15 in the trailer (the part where the enterprise goes into hyperspace).
Conclusion:
in trailer: 0.34 to 1.01 :"Down With The Ship"
1.02 to 1.15 :"War Begins"
1.16 to end: "Down With The Ship"I'm a mog, half man, half dog, I am my own best friend.

I wanted to replicate the version in the trailer. It required a lot of tweaking because there were certain instruments and hits that were added to the original songs after they were merged. Only thing though is I could only get a hold of the chorus version of "down with the ship" or as Nick calls it Down with the Enterprise. It basically has chorus chanting towards the final build.
Some hits and swooshes were added to try and mimic the the sound design in the trailer.
The beginning is really long. The real edit begins at 1:02.
Tell me what you guys think.

Awesome! A nice piece of music. Thanks for the edit.

Not bad, i was thinking about doing the same. After I listened to it i put your audiofile thrue audacity to take a look at it. Unfortunatly it has a lot of clipping after the 1.02 part. Did you amplify it? Because it sounds distorted, the bass is much too powerfull to be comfy and dominates it too much.
The transition is perfect just too bad about the bass and clipping.
-
Yeah I was just listening to it at my edit suite at work which has a more accurate setup for audio and it does have a lot of distortion. It wouldn't be as noticeable on basic speakers though, which I have at my apartment. I basically can just re tweak the certain parts now that I know what I did wrong. I will probably upload a new version if anyone is interested but I wouldn't mind listening to a version by you though.

Star Trek - Trailer 3
Any guesses or info yet as to the source of the awesome music used? Sounds similar to some of the cues used in The Dark Knight score.
You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.

That is what I would like to know too. Cool song. Is it part of the movie?
