Direct Download Links from Apple Are Not Working
Thursday, August 20th, 2009 | Author: Krunk
Direct download links for HD trailers on Apple are currently busted. From their tweet, it looks like the change was made to deal with the influx of user traffic/bandwidth for the Avatar trailer:
Adjustments made to support additional #Avatar teaser trailer traffic now live http://tinyurl.com/avatarteaser/ #avatarmovie
It looks like one of the adjustments they made was to only allow Quicktime to download the trailer. Any web browser will be automatically redirected to the Apple – Movie Trailers’ homepage.
If you have a download utility or are able to spoof the User Agent in your browser (i.e. User Agent Switcher for Firefox), you can still get around this.
The user agent my Quicktime uses is:
QuickTime/7.6.2 (qtver=7.6.2;os=Windows NT 5.1Service Pack 3)
I’ve confirmed you don’t actually need the content inside the parenthesis: ()
Using wget, I was able to download the Avatar 1080p trailer with:
wget -U QuickTime/7.6.2 http://movies.apple.com/movies/fox/a...tsr_h1080p.mov
Let’s just hope this is temporary or else it’d be quite inconvenient for users to download HD trailers from Apple anymore.
I can't see through walls, but I can kick your ass.

every so offen they do this. I remember when the so called "FULLscreen" trailers started to come out (Trailers with boarders) were hard to link too. But there is ALWAYS a around everything.

Update
Here is the latest update, no real getaround for IE yet.
Using wget, I was able to download the Avatar 1080p trailer with:
wget -U QuickTime/7.6.2 http://movies.apple.com/movies/fox/a...tsr_h1080p.mov
Update #2: You can also use curl (comes with Mac OSX) to download using the following command:
curl -A QuickTime/7.6.2 http://movies.apple.com/movies/fox/a...tsr_h1080p.mov
Update: If you want to use the User Agent Switcher for Firefox, you’ll first need to install the extension. After installing the extension, go to Tools > Default User Agent > Edit User Agents…
Create a new User Agent by clicking on New > New User Agent… Clear out all the fields and copy and paste QuickTime/7.6.2 into the Description and User Agent fields.
Switch to the newly created QuickTime/7.6.2 User Agent by selecting it from the Tools > Default User Agent menu. Now you should be able to click/save Apple HD trailers from our site as you normally did before. Remember to switch back to the Default User Agent after you’re done saving trailers.
Let’s just hope this is temporary or else it’d be quite inconvenient for users to download HD trailers from Apple anymore.

I already own the Vantage, dont need a second one do I ?
Actually, quite a few of applications I use were developped for IE, and are not supported otherwise. This said, yes IE is not the best (Actually IE8 is the worst of the bunch) , but essential for my daily functions.
Just to clarify, It does not mean that I cant get the Apple video's either, all I am saying is that there is no "workaround" to do it simply by using the browser as compared to Firefox.
By the way, just kidding about the vantage, but among other cars, I do own one of these:

It seems the links stopped working again. This time I don't think someone will find a work around.
Just use QuickTime Pro guys.

Looks like Apple is on a rampage to stop Hotlinking and trailer downloading, they want the hits, and to sell PRO. Several sites which specialized in Apple Posts still have not figured out how to get around the latest changes, and one of the reasons appears to be that they are still at it......, meaning they are still implementing changes, but that's only my opinion.
Anyway, I did get through a couple of times with Orbit, took a while and quite a few refreshes, but it painfully worked so I dont know if it was a fluke or not ( I dont use Orbit much).
Unfortunately, I am fresh out of Free alternatives, as per the previous post, going PRO is one solution, but I would'nt give Apple my money if my life depended on it.
Someone will get around it at some point, they always do.

I use "Free Download Manager" and it works fine for me.
Take the normal directlink "http://movies.apple.com/movies/xxx_hxxxp.mov" and then change the protocol to "QuickTime/7.6.2".

I think I will love Yahoo trailers now.
