The Film

This is the story of the man who became King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II. After his brother abdicates, George (‘Bertie’) reluctantly assumes the throne. Plagued by a dreaded stutter and considered unfit to be king, Bertie engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue. Through a set of unexpected techniques, and as a result of an unlikely friendship, Bertie is able to find his voice and boldly lead the country into war.

I'm surprised more people haven't commented on this thread. I'm really looking forward to TKS. It opened last weekend, I believe...? and its limited release numbers were really high, something like 88k per screen. I wonder how its numbers will compare once it receives a wider release.

I speculate that Firth will take home Best Actor and Rush Best Supporting. Best Picture, perhaps remains to be seen. I've read some comments mentioning The Social Network as a contender. I think it will receive a nomination, but I don't think it will win over the academy. I expect that both The King's Speech and Black Swan will ultimately become front runners in Oscar Discussion, with King's Speech receiving a slight edge. You just can't beat Colin Firth. And Colin Firth accompanied by Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter seals the deal for me. Again, this is a lot of personal speculation, but I'm also drawing from some reviews I've read.
