Its not, its INSPIRED by a true story, not BASED. The only thing that was inspired was from the serial killer Ed Gein, who used to skin bodys, and wear the flesh. There never was a family who killed random people.

oh okay thanks for the spoilers. i wuz wondering what the whole movie wuz about....

usually inspired by a true story means it's a true story or it's similiarly happened to people, so like i said i can't believe it's a true story (or i can't believe it's even CLOSE to a true story)

Hmmm, from what I've seen in posters, pics and trailers, it seems to have ditched the seedy and rawness of the original to make it just another boring teen slasher. Too bad really.

That pic of the house gives off that Amityville vibe. It looks freaky

Well, from what I've seen so far, it looks like it's picked up a great dirty-looking stylistic appearance ala Se7en... I'm looking forward to this. The original didn't scare me, shocked me a little bit but that's about it, I hope this one has more of an effect on me (and from early screening reviews I've read, I'll probly crap my pants). "An endurance test of almost unbearable imagery." Doesn't sound like your standard teen slasher flick to me.

There were killings in real life that these films are based on, but they're not even remotely similar. No power tools were harmed in the process of making those real life murders.

The real story had a canibal who killed people and used their flesh and bones around the house. Human skin lamp shades, bone pots ect...
but I'm unaware of the guy ever making a skin mask and running around with a chainsaw. The same killings influenced both Silence Of The Lambs and Psycho.

    Hasn't someone already posted this?
