720x480 vob to ntsc svcd mpeg with tmpgenc

I've got a 720x480 ntsc .vob which I want to convert to an ntsc svcd mpeg (no dvd writer yet) with TMPGEnc.

I use dvd2avi as a frameserver and for some reason I cannot get TMPGEnc to recognise it as a 16:9 (it claims it is a "4:3 525 line ntsc 704x480" file).

When I select 16:9 TMPGEnc does keep the proper width/height ratio, but the picture quality seems not as good as with the wrong version.

Am I doing something wrong?

Make sure you have the right plugin selected.

Click Option, Environmental Setting, VFAPI plugin.
DVD2AVI should have the highest priority.
