The "good looking young people in peril" subgenre is about to get a new addition, MGM's Into the Blue. The film stars Jessica Alba, Paul Walker, Ashley Scott, Scott Caan and Josh Brolin and centers around a group of young people who discover the sunken wreckage of a plane while scuba diving. It turns out that the wreckage contains illegal cargo and the divers then find themselves involved with a group of dangerous criminals.

John Stockwell directed the MGM/Mandalay production from a script by Matt Johnson (Torque). Stockwell, who is also an actor and writer, directed Blue Crush, Crazy/Beautiful and Cheaters.
