Hell Ride - 2 / 5
This is one of those movies where you say to yourself "what could have been". This had the potential to be a great grindhouse flick but turned out to be pretty bad. I don't know if it's just me but the story seemed to be all over the place. The biggest problem to me was Larry Bishop. I think someone else should have played the part of Pistolero or have someone else direct. This could have been awesome if QT was behind the camera and not just producing. The only highlight for me was Michael Madsen who was just fun to watch as he always is.Last edited by chernabog_ca; 01-09-2009 at 08:54 PM.
You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.

I caught Pulp Fiction by accident on TV I went ahead and watched it...even if I already saw it about 10 times, still enjoyed it.

Becoming Jane - 6.3/10.
Ultimately a sad tale of being in a class system where money and stature are stronger than love. There isn't really much known about Jane Austen. Most of the history books are speculative; especially as it pertains to her early years.
My biggest gripe with this movie is that Hathaway did not make a believable English woman. Since I didn't believe she was English, I had a difficult time believing she was Jane Austen. But the story was interesting enough for me to give this move a passing grade.
A better movie about Jane Austen was 'Miss Austen Regrets' starring Olivia Williams as Jane Austen. This movie was about Jane in her final few years before she died at fairly young age of a much debated sickness. This movie also had pathos, but yet it was inspiring as well. Particularly knowing that this woman would be immortalized because of her books. Olivia Williams portrayed Jane Austen magnificently. She was filled with wit, and humour and the type of irony that Jane Austen loved to write about.
Miss Austen Regrets 9.5/10.Homer Simpson: "I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman."

Max Payne - 2.5 / 5
Never played the game so I had no idea what it was about. Wasn't as bad as others have been saying but not anything special.

On Blu:
Pineapple Express - 2/5
I was expecting so much more from this movie. I only laughed a handful of times. And to make matters worse, the sound was TERRIBLE on the Blu-ray. I have never heard such a restrained soundtrack in my life! It was like listening through a cup. Very annoying.

Defiance - 3/5
Not what I was expecting but still entertaining. One of Zwick's weaker films.
'Idi i smotri' is the better film about WW2 in Byelorussia.

The Wrestler - 4 / 5
Everything you've heard about Rourke's performance is true. It's worth seeing this film just for that. It truly is gripping. Tomei is also very strong and naked in this. As far as the film itself, it is very good and an interesting story. As a former wrestling fan it was nice to see the backstage stuff was realistic and treated this form of entertainment with respect.
