This movie looks like it could be the best of all the Mad Max films. Hopefully Miller uses a large percentage of practical effects compared to CGI.

Too much CGI!
Miller should had used old school special effects by using real car stunts!
When he made Mad Max and The Road Warrior and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, there was no CGI SFX and the movies looked fantastic.

I don't know if you ever watched the documentary "Not Quite Hollywood - The Wild Untold Story of Ozploitation", but there is no way that the stunts performed for the original Mad Max trilogy would be allowed these days.
So forget that idea.
The amount of money involved in trying to create similar stunts with live action, while keeping everyone safe would be phenomenal.
You also have to remember that most films are filmed digitally to begin with, so adding CGI is a breeze and if done right looks great.
BTW, your comments are kind of ironic, considering that you worship the ultimate CGI god himself Michael Bay.

Mad Max had more gritty stunts.
Every time I watch any of them I always keep wondering how insane they must have been to do any of that.
The first Mad Max alone was intense when Gibson starts chasing with the Interceptor.
The people running across the street (just for stunts-sake; you can tell by the way they scurry)
And that baby.
Laws and regulations about how dangerous you can film were very lax back then.
In USA, it wasn't until a grizzly accident during the production of The Twilight Zone movie (early 82) that they had to make changes about stunts.
There's still some practical effects today, just not as extreme as they used to be.

It's a mix of both, but the emphasis is on real stunts whenever possible, same with the stinker "Need for Speed" and many others, but none of those movies involve an unreal apocalyptic world with the main story line being the killing and mangling of people with vehicles of various types.
I don't recall the exact details, but I do remember something about the final attempt of the stunt actually going wrong, it was only suppose to roll over a few times, and not the insane amounts it did.
Nobody got hurt, so they used it since it was a great shot, but it could have well been a major disaster as opposed to a great stroke of luck.
But movies like Casino Royale only have one or two car stunts, so it's a minimal cost.
Even Steve McQueen had restrictions imposed in respect to him doing some of the driving in "Bullitt".
The F&F franchise only has limited complicated, and overly risky destructive scenes, 85% of the movie itself is based on "Stunt Racing" in a closed off area which is a far different animal than a movie focusing on Death and Destruction on a non-stop basis.
Studios don't have the choice but to raise the bar every time a movie is made in order to to make it a success, where it ends is anyone's guess. The only certainty is that labor codes, unions and outrageous liability Claims have made it too costly for studios to risk it. The only danger with CGI is a bad case of Carpel Tunnel or Repetitive Strain Injury.

The Casino Royale car-roll installed something to aid the car in how many flips it would do.
It entered the Guinness world record for that stunt.
"special effects team were called in to install a air-powered cannon behind the drivers seat"

That's correct, which is a standard stunt tool, but I recall from a featurette that all they were looking for was a single roll for the shoot, and instead they got as a world record setting 7 rolls as you stated, which was not the plan.
Time to get back on topic.
