Prometheus (formerly known as the Alien prequel)

Carl Rinsch to Direct Alien Prequel

Earlier yesterday, rumors were coming out of horror site Bloody-Disgusting that 20th Century Fox was interested in relaunching the "Alien" franchise with some sort of reboot or remake, following the recent news that Robert Rodriguez would be doing the same thing for 20th Century Fox's other sci-fi creature franchise, Predator.

While there was no confirmation from the Fox camp or the trades, Collider's roving reporter "Frosty" cornered director Tony Scott at the press conference for his own remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 to get confirmation and learned that Scott-Free Productions is indeed producing a remake with director Carl Rinsch helming. They hope that the movie, which is meant act as a prequel to Ridley Scott's original 1979 classic Alien, will be shooting by the end of the year.

The original B-D story suggested that they would return to the original concept of just one alien creature, and that they'd be looking for a new "Ripley."

    this is BS

if it's a prequel to Alien, there wouldn't be any Ripley character

i read that they will be remaking the first movie again. I don't like the sounds of it but with Ridley Scotts production n approval behind it, it could be alrite

Good, good news! Tony Scott has cleared up last week's rumours that a remake of Alien was on the way. It's actually a prequel movie that will explain the origins of the space jockey spaceship.

Last week we reported that a chap called Carl Rinsch has been tapped to direct it, which Scott confirmed. Rinsch has previously shot commercials for Tony and Ridley Scott's advertising company.

Speaking to Collider, Tony Scott said: "Yes, Carl Rinsch is going to do the prequel to Alien. He’s one of our directors at our company.

"I’m excited cause Ridley created the original and Carl Rinsch is one of the family."

Scott also said that the movie would hopefully be in front of cameras by the end of the year.

Sounds like it's moved past the stage of being just a pet project Ridley's mulling over
it means no Ripley, a prequel, not a remake/reboot and we finally get to see the Space Jockey and LV 426 in its pre-Nostromo days!!

one of Rinsch directed TV commercials:

Sounds very interesting. Curiosly, I have not seen the first Alien movie in years (maybe more than ten years) and I have forgotten all the thing about the Space Jockey...

personally I thought that is what they were working to with the AVP movies they were linking it all into one timeline. because the way I seen it it went down like this:
    Predator
    Predator 2
(the long talked about Predator 3) which I talked about in a different thread
    AVP
    AVP-R
(Alien prequel(s), which they hint at at the end of AVP-R)
    Alien
    Aliens...and so on
that how I always seen the flow of the story and continuity but I don't know if that is the way that Fox would actually take it.

I fear if they keep cranking out 3d movies, the audiences will get tired of it (plus it's more expensive ticket price wise)

and some good movies will not get the box office success they deserve because the audience won't go see it:

"oh another 3D movie, I pass, You seen one, you seen it all!! I am not paying $12 for the ticket, etc etc"
